This is good news because it underlines what many of us have been saying for awhile, that the Democratic coalition is simply much larger than the GOP's. The key to a Clinton win is just getting everyone on board, whereas Trump has to convince liberals to vote for him for victory.

she won't remain 9 points ahead in some polls, no. But it's not entirely meaningless to compare convention bumps. Trump's was average and Clinton's appears to be large, about 7 points.

I think it just points out that Trumps rise was predictably because of the convention now Hillary gets her rise and then it will even out to Hillary being slightly ahead again

It could suggest that she holds a decisive lead. She can lose support and still maintain her edge. Poll aggregation of course means looking for patterns in as many polls as possible, and what we have seen over and over during the last few months is Clinton with a slight to moderate lead. Trump does come in ahead in the odd poll every now and then, but if the race were actually very close we would probably see the polls being more mixed in terms of who has the advantage. Though Clinton's average lead may only be 2-4 points, the fact that those points fall her way over and over in many polls over time could be significant.

over the next few weeks the polls should start to look like the outcome. remember though that mccain surged ahead of obama at the end of september and then obama came out 7 points ahead 40 days later. whacky shit can definitely happen. but yeah, the polls are only going to become more meaningful from this point forward
