I get this uneasy itchy feeling when I see trypophobia shit. It's weird when there's unexplained widely-shared phenomena like that. I've seen one explanation that the response might be an adaption to avoid diseased humans, but that kind of just sounds like one of those unverifiable pop evo-psych "just so" stories to me.



I get a similar feeling whenever I see... I can't really explain it... organic/natural things that mimic a human-made order. I dunno, this just makes me squirm.

Is this thread about just basic, evolutionary fears? If so, are we mocking the language of "triggering" and in turn the sufferers of legit fear/panic complexes/PTSD? Scott, you jet setting Frodo? Can please clarify?

My trigger is bars and all drinking parties. I start to panic I will kick them in the face and take their drinks and drink it and then drink all the other drinks across town

We are apparently hardwired for some fears, though. There were some experiments done where lab chimpanzees watched videos of another chimpanzees being scared by snakes, or being scared by something like a chicken or something not considered to be a normal human fear. Then, when introduced to the snake, they immediately reacted with fear, but not to the chicken. If they were never exposed to the videos they did not have a fear of either.

I can get the study if you want, it was in my textbook. So basically we do need the environmental input but just an environmental input requires much more of a traumatic experience to become a fear or phobia.
