Anyone ever see the standup of Tim Heidecker (of Tom Goes to the Mayor and Tim & Eric Awesome Show fame)? He did a few sets adopting a painfully unfunny and amateurish style that was, somehow, ultimately hilarious. One might call it Kaufmanesque but it's not even that sophisticated, it's just a straight up caricature of a wannabe standup failing really, really hard

Oh no, I booked for the 5th March. I'm going in with a friend a couple of weeks earlier, to check out the other talent and try and get an idea of what the audience might be like.

It could have been sooner, I mean it could have been this weekend if I wanted it to be. But they allow bookings that far ahead so I choose to give myself time to check out the setup and develop my material.

Just general observational stuff. I thought about having some kind of more pronounced shtick, but it's a lot of work for me to write that way, and a lot harder for me to deliver it. I'll find it much easier to just be myself, and that's the kind of comedy I most enjoy.

I did, about 7 mum-friends came with me and they made up half the audience. I think there were 8 stand ups altogether and I was probably 2nd worst. It went about as badly as I expected - with so many friends coming I became cowardly and wrote a routine based on rbg's one liner about ferrets just being weasels with better PR.

I posted the routine here afterwards. It was terrible, bland and unfunny. It's buried in a chat thread somewhere. One of my friends recorded it but I don't know where the recording is. I sound nervous and high pitched and slightly upset.

I'll have another go someday.
