Just got censored by a friend for taking on an Appledriod friend of hers claiming that I was ignorant for thinking that Steve Jobs' contributions to computing were not as great as Dennis Ritchie's. Sad, because she lives in a Gulf State with horrible censorship and she has complained about it numerous times. But now deletes posts on her own feed simply because her dumbass friend comes off looking like what he is. A dumbass.

At one point this guy says "I work in Silicon Valley with thousands of engineers and they would all tell you the same thing." Born in the 60s, this guy, and still no hold on propositional logic at all. So sad.

Linus is named after Linus Torvalds, yeah.

It's because when I met Pete, and he told me he was a programmer, I said "oh, I guess you must use Linux at home, then." This was in 2004, and he'd never heard a woman say the word "Linux" before. We were at an ATM, and he said "If this machine will give me some money, will you let me buy you a drink?".

He's not like that at all, usually. But he was drunk, that night. He'd walked right up to me at the ATM and started talking to me.

By the time we were pregnant with Linus, we were using OpenBSD at home, and he was more of a Theo de Raadt fanboy. But we decided to name our baby Linus, anyway, because of how we met.

the american way. we thought about using the european pronunciation, which would have been our first preference, but the reality is that NZ and Aus follow US pronunciation and we didn't want him turning into one of those kids who is forever correcting people when they say his name. But he knows that in Europe his name is said differently, because by chance a lot of acquaintances and tutors/teachers he's had, have been European and use the euro pronunciation. I think they're unaware that it has a different pronunciation here, and because I prefer it anyway, I never correct them.
