Bill Maher is a smart guy and I usually think he has insightful things to say, but every time he opens his mouth on religion he spews totally ignorant horseshit. I mean this guy shares his view on Muslims with Richard Dawkins like what else is there to say? He's an enormously prejudiced Islamophobe who spreads a lot of damaging and false ideas about Islam and the Islamic world. even if christians are going to make a big deal about SEE WE ARE PERSECUTED JUST LIKE THE BLACKS with this oregon shooting they actually were targeted and it was a hate crime and the way new athiesm talks about other human beings doesn't help

exactly. I'm glad pavementtune posted that video, I was actually thinking about that specifically. Aslan points out that Maher and people of that persuasion take the most extreme instances of hardline Islamic governance and then speak like the 1.5 billion Muslims in the world are all like that. Saudi Arabia does not equal Islam. al Qaeda does not equal Islam.

when I was hanging with Arabs in Israel and shooting the shit about politics or whatever, I was asked more than a few times to please when I talk to non-Muslims explain that ISIS are not Muslims at all, and have no relation to what "real" Muslims believe and follow.

Lol I accidentally opened the religion culture war thread again.

I dunno, I'm pretty much a fedora-tipping euphoric in my belief that religion shouldn't get to have some special protection from criticism amongst the different sorts of beliefs, and that it can often be used to legitimate unethical actions because it's justifications are unique in that they claim to transcend the universe and all human reason, but at the same time, I can't fucking stand people like Bill Maher, who have this "OMG so enlightened and so much smarter than theists PS Muslims are violent" attitude despite being total fucking dunces themselves. He seems to be a progressive only when it comes to issues affecting white dudes, but seems pretty conservative when it comes to support of U.S. imperialism and the lots of disadvantaged people. I mean, I guess I don't totally hate him. On issues where I agree with him, it's easy to root for his strident manner. And he can be pretty funny.

I've never watched bill maher beyond the clips that people share on fb which are all his facepalm moments. I think for what his schtick seems to be, there are better versions, like lewis black, say. Who I listen to a few times a year, just to draw comfort from his misanthropy. It makes me feel better to know I'm not alone.

yes but for skinny small framed women who have virtually no gland tissue, and who are therefore first in line for implants, aesthetically it looks better if the implant is inserted under the muscle tissue, so that's what they often do, now. For those women anyway. Who are usually the same ones who have had the painful permanent hair removal on their legs, underarms & bikini lines, because their macrobiotic diets and endless hours of yoga and cardio have stripped them of their curves so they need to work a little harder to demarcate themselves from the lean, muscly guys they're trying to attract. :/ It's kinda sick
