It's no one's responsibility to call people out. If you feel you are up to doing that effectively, I applaud you.

Can I just remind you the context of this, we're talking about someone that broadcasts his shitty opinions on Facebook to his circle of other shitty people. I have gone as far as blocking him so i dont have to see those things, but unless i tell him IN PERSON that i dont apporove of the beliefs he expresses ON FACEBOOK, then i am part of the problem.

when i'm visiting family i'm going to start a stopwatch counting the time until someone says something quasi-racist.

at this point i'm growing tired of telling them that whatever they are trying to say is senseless and has nothing to do with whatever race of people they're talking about. but i'm certainly not going to cut them out of my life. i need to relax more around family. fuck it. they all probably think i'm gay by now anyway. tv has made homosexuality pretty common.

You misread. I originally suggested you unfriend him. You told me that he'd most likely make a big deal about it irl. You told me you just wouldn't be able to handle that so you unfollow him.

The only way people know they have shitty, damaging opinions is if someone calls them on it. Im not suggesting you print out the SCUM Manifesto but if he confronts you about unfriending him irl then that's when you tell him politely why you did. If he wants to argue about it, tell him "dude, im not going to discuss this at work. Your opinions are ones id rather not put up with. End of story."

There's a dude at work who talks fucking endlessly to whoever will listen. Add that to the CNN on loop in the lobby, it was only a matter of time before his dumb goddamned opinion about cops being the good guys came up.

It wasin reference to the ferguson protestors "escalating things". All i had to say was, "actually it's been the cops provoking things but okay..."
Haven't heard anything from him about anything political since.

Again, not everyone is the same personality as me. Not saying you have to say something to every misogynist racist but don't misinterpret what I've said.

I think it's a real fine balancing act. I'm often torn between trying to avoid being a self-righteous proselytizing dickhead and being a good ally. Social media presents many opportunities to challenge people's ideas, provided you have the time and the other party has the grace to actually engage in a conversation. Sometimes you're banging your head against a brick wall.

FWIW I have never defriended someone over their political beliefs, but I have unfollowed a LOT of people. I genuinely feel like i've had some beneficial and respectful exchanges of ideas on FB in the last year. Not many, but some.

Same, I don't think I have ever unfriended anyone but I have unfollowed a bunch of people, usually for jet fuel can't melt steel beams nonsense or for right-wing Jewish nationalist horseshit

the people i've unfollowed fall into three categories: Science is great religion is dumb, here's a meme about it; All muslims are terrorists and we're about to be overrun; and Just remember the universe has a plan for you so it's totally fine for me to be taking ecstasy on my own at home on a monday.

yah but it's more like

Quote:
Many have asked me ‘when does the process end’. And in all truth, growth never does. We simply experience new phases of it.

We’re going to see several major cosmic/astrological alignments in the coming weeks, through which time a new ‘normal’ will begin to assert itself in your realities. We began the process long ago, powered by the generation-transforming Uranus-Pluto squares, peaking with the Grand Cardinal Cross in mid-2014 and the Saturn-in-Scorpio transit (itself in mutual reception with Pluto-in-Capricorn) between 2012-2015.

So there really isn’t any going back, in terms of the levels of consciousness or the doors of awakening we’re about to step into.

I love this recurring line about the "levels of consciousness" as though if you're an ignorant self-absorbed fuckwit it's just cause the universe hasn't unlocked your higher awareness yet and not cause you're a shitty human who needs to engage in some painful self-reflection.
