Yeah, thankfully Canadian conservatism isn't quite as extreme as American Conservatism. But it has been Americanizing.

Gay and lesbian rights aren't much of an issue here, but there is probably much further to go for trans rights. There is still racial stratification and discrimination, but there aren't as many dog-whistle attacks on blacks in political rhetoric, though the state of Aboriginal welfare is pretty dire and reserves are pretty much like third-world countries within Canada. And there is the huge issue of missing and murdered Aboriginal women that the government absolutely refuses to hold an inquiry on for some reason.

Women's reproductive rights are pretty well protected, because even the Conservatives know that re-opening that issue will be bad for them (they are a more pragmatic party than the Republicans, so they try not to ruffle too many feathers), though more extremist individual MPs sometimes try to reopen the debate, and though there are no laws against abortion, there are very few clinics in the East because some provinces just don't want to fund them.

As for immigration, there is rhetoric against Arabs and Muslims similar to what you'll find in the States. The Conservatives tried to make it illegal for Muslims to wear headscarves at citizen ceremonies (even if they are identified through other means like fingerprints, or take off the scarves for identification and then put them back on), but the Supreme Court struck the law down. Conservos are also slow to bring in more Syrian and Iraqi refugees because of "security concerns," and there are many more examples of them exploiting Islamophobia for political ends.

I expect sexism and other forms of bigotry to be more subtle these days that it absolutely boggles my mind that some people are so blatant and forget to couch their stupid views in obscure language. lately my favorite posts are humble brags from coworkers, as you can imgine they can be passive sanctimonious if thats a thing

e.g. "today i had lots of tuff but rewarding calls but its inspiring to talk to such brave survivors!" 35 likes "omg i could never do what u do" "you are so courageous" etc

I hate "I just ran three miles" or "I'm tired from my workout" posts. Unless the person is overweight and the post is about them making progress and starting to make life changes. Then I feel genuinely happy for them. If it's just some normie announcing that they did something today for validation, it annoys me.

Full disclosure: I posted exactly two during my year-long weight loss so I'm a hypocrite. One was a pic my friend took as we were at a stop on our run, and another was a check-in at a place I run.

some people have those apps that post how far they ran and what route they took. it is annoying. in general I don't understand when people want to post daily routine stuff on facebook. I did make one workout status once though, but it was only because I had drunk a bunch of margaritas and then went for an epic run in the dark
