not really... the past movies they gave away much more. episode 3's trailer for example showed the whole goddamn movie

there's been a lot of stuff coming out like set pieces and such but with most actors it's still not even clear who their characters are

I'm sick of Star Wars, and I've only seen like four of the movies. I'm sick of the references popping up literally everywhere. I get it's cultural significance but it's fuckin irritating as someone who couldn't care any less.

Not looking forward to all the new Star wars related things happening in the future because it means I'll never stop hearing about fucking star wars to the rest of my goddamned life.

The first three (the classic ones) and I think I delved into one of the prequels. I mean, I know they are historically significant but jfc 40 years later and I probably hear, read, or see a SW reference every other day.

Plus the plot for that one was known, like, a full 8-12 months before it came out? Partly because the story was fill-in-the-blanks to begin with. All the trailers show is a couple of kids and the old characters, and there's a disturbance in the force. And that some of the rumors are true as confirmed by Abrams, but we don't know which ones.

Here's what I've heard and surmised without really trying(highlight):
-film maybe opens with Luke's lightsaber soaring through space (unsubstantiated rumor)
-black stormtrooper crashes on desert planet (trailer)
-The Solo girl (maybe?) recovers Luke's saber, has to take it to him (rumor).
-the Lupito Nyongo gangster alien plays some role here (magazine article).
-Millennium Falcon is shown at the desert planet, so presumably Han and Chewie come to escort them to Luke at that island in Ireland (filmed there last summer)
-Knights of Ren are an order distinct from the Jedi or Sith (interview in some magazine). Kylo Ren is possibly the Jacen Solo analogue (speculation)
-The guy who plays Ren was seen in an XWing suit at what looks like the YAvin base last summer
-Han and Chewie are assaulted by flamethrower wielding stormtroopers at the Yavin base (also spy photos, and a video!)
-Vader's helmet plays a role (concept art leaked)
-the Imperial Remnant or the First Order or something are the bad guys
-lightsaber battle on snow planet, Solo girl is possibly captured by Ren after losing to him based on concept art
-general overarching plot deals with balance of light and dark (trailer V.O. by Andy Serkis, concept art)

-oh yeah and Daniel Craig, Sam Jackson, Tom Cruise, Hugh Jackman, Robert Downey Jr., and a billion other people have cameos

So we don't even know that these are the Solo kids or where the hell they are from or what their motivations are, whereas with 3 we knew (or at lest I knew) that Anakin decapitated Dooku in the first 30 minutes, OBiWan killed Grievous with a blaster, Anakin killed younglings, Anakin kills Windu to save Palps, Yoda fights Palps and loses, Anakin gets melted by ObiWan and is saved by Palps to become Vader, Padme is killed by Anakin, JEdi are executed by Palps, last shot is Owen on Tatooine... so yeah comparatively nobody really knows anything about the plot in even a general sense.

It is 100% generating hype based on the fact that it is Star Wars and that it takes place after the good movies.
