Considering how much I love to sleep, it's always amusing when I pull the occasional rock star status all-nighter

I don't mind waking up like 5 minutes before the alarm, but I think the worst is when I wake up 45-30 minutes before the alarm and I'm just like should I try and sleep until it goes off, or should I just get up now?

I've been having sleep issues since 14, and have been pulling all nighters since then, so my sleep is totally screwed up. I have an instinct for it now - like when I'm likely to wake up with an alarm, and when I'm not. But if my body hasn't had enough, nothing will get me up except one of my children needing help. So we are never at school 15 minutes early like they recommend they should be. And we are frequently 1 minute late. Because that's the difference between somebody wanting me to get up, and somebody needing me to get up. And then I live with the mother of all migraines until I sleep again.

sleeping through alarms and loud noises is easy. i am just like mother in that i am a night owl and a morning person. i hated as a kid spending the night at a friends house and just laying there in the morning unsure of the time and wishing my pal would wake the fuck up already. i read 'Are You There God, It's Me, Margaret' in one session waiting for one friend to wake up. in time you learn the adults don't mind if you go out in the living areas and are more than willing to make breakfast or let you have cereal. this usually wakes up the friend anyway or the parents ask you to wake them.

what really wakes me up though is hearing my name. you could whisper it from across the cross the room and i will pop up saying 'What?'

I used to hate feeling obligated to wait for friends to wake up, but mostly because I don't tend to like sleeping at other people's houses unless I am dating them, so I was usually just waiting for them to wake up so that I could leave. Eventually as I got into my late teens and 20s, I became close enough with some friends that after a night of drinking and needing to crash I'd just say "hey I might not feel like waiting for you to get up, so I'll probably leave before you're up so thanks for letting me sleep it off here!"

That mostly came after I saw my friend's friend do the same thing multiple times. At like 5 or 6 AM he'd just get up and peace out and I was like I'M GOING TO START THAT

i'm talking when i was 10 or 11 and not dating.

but even when i got older (15 - 16) i would spend days and weeks away from home at a friends and her mom would joke they were going to adopt me and i was treated like a part of the family. and be glad that my parents never tried looking for me, but also hurt. but mostly glad. and even if i wanted to go home, i doubt you would have wanted to walk in my neighborhood at that time of night back then.

once i had a home and place of my own, i'd prefer to stay in any old day of week.
