In a way it would probably be easier to motivate yourself to do something like study for a degree in prison than out of prison. There'd be far less distractions like this forum for example.

i would get buff. take classes forever. get a prison job either in the kitchen or library or learn some shop. and write a lot and get pen-pals to send me money for commissary. make a close friend or two. have a girlfriend. and marry a man on the outside.

I still remember reading about a case couple of years ago - juvenile prison (14-18 years old), they had the daily procedure to rape new younglings with a broom stick. when it hit the news (after a 14 year old had to go to the hospital, they managed to rip him up quite good with that broom stick), the prison itself of course was "shocked" and had "never heard" of that before...

yeah, well i heard they were taking 1,000 mentally ill inmates out of California prisons and putting them in a facility focusing on treatment. that's great! but just a drop in the bucket towards prison reform. great for the 1,000, though... as great as a jail focused on mental health can be.

they still have to build it.

i might be way off here, but my hometown school system is doing a similar thing. the government gave the prison/school money to accept the LD prisoners/students. after a while someone generally realizes it's not worth the money.

they're not sending them anywhere to be someone else's "problem". LA is building is entirely brand-new jail facility for them. and I just read a new women's prison with a more "campus-like" environment conducive to education and rehabilitation.

i can see how paying a school money to accept prisoner-students would be an awful idea. i'm pretty sure the teachers, principals, students - ya know, those most affected - didn't have a say either.

i guess it depends if the original prison was state-governed/owned/operated or if it was exempted/private, and if the new place is or isn't.

i have no dog in this race though. it just reminded me of what was happening in my hometown.
