If I didn't have a kid...I would probably feel different about some things. I can't afford that spot on a ship to Mars.

Mars isn't inhabitable to humans. It's a pipe dream to "terraform" it to make it inhabitable. It took a long time for the earth to develop the way it did and it would be easier just to treat the earth nicer (for our own interests).

I forgot to mention that it's a dumb idea to take resources from earth and put them on another planet. Why not just keep them on earth. Mars is cold and doesn't have the right sort of gases and doesn't have oil and is just a rusty 'ol planet with nothing.

When I think of transhumanists, I think of people who sit around in chat rooms going "what if technology just gets to the point where it just totally like fixes everything?" because they've totally checked out of reality due to the overwhelming complexity of the world.

Also, has anybody seen this? I just can't get enough of the fact that the cover depicts a guy angrily pointing at death and scolding it for being a thing.

bullshit. read a princess of mars. barsoom (what you mortal vermin term as "mars") has a breathable atmosphere and two highly civilized species. also, john carter used the weaker gravity of the red planet to leap around prodigiously, him having nurtured and developed his muscles on Earth. this enables him to deliver and sexually overwhelm the magnificently nude Dejah Thoris.

You know, I don't even know. Maybe even just the idea of a man that has been educated at a place where he had nothing to worry about but irregular verbs and iambic pentameter.

If you don't like it when people die, then get this book.
By Eric Schulke on April 29, 2014
Format: Kindle Edition | Verified Purchase
Some information catalyzes the saving of life, like this book. If you're thinking of buying it, buy it, of course. Get a bunch of them and spread them around to kids and various children's libraries.

Didn't think that Dynamite put those sorts of images right on their covers. I'm having nighmarish visions of shitty '90s Image Comics anatomy by Scott Campbell and Michael Turner making a resurgence. Though I guess that already happened because DC seems to have become the new home for all those '90s rejects like Finch, Rocofort, and writer Lobdell. Even had Liefeld for a while before he ragequit.

It's a really young Ethan Hawke at the top right. That blew my mind when I learned that.

I really liked him in the Before Sunrise/Sunset/Midnight movies. I haven't seen him in much else though. I heard he fucked over Uma Thurman pretty bad though, so maybe he's not the best husband material.

the biggest problem with terraforming mars (making it practically a non-starter) is the fact that it has no magnetic field. earth's atmosphere is as dense as it it because its magnetic field deflects solar winds that would otherwise strip away our atmospheric gases. even if you could theoretically tune the mixture of gases on mars so that it would be habitable, they would just be swept away. to create a large enough magnetic field that would protect mars would be a feat as monumental as like, a trillion hoover dams.
