I don't think it will be that soon. Maybe 3 generations. It does make me want to vomit hearing people be so happy that a baby is on the way, my baby is so smart, I'm so happy being a parent etc. That kid is going to witness some crazy shit. Yeah I know mayfuck, I'm anti kids being born.

The thing I like about him is that he makes it very clear that it's just as shit being posh as it is being anything else. He begins this talk by asking who has suffered from impotence lately and raises his hand before begging others to not leave him alone. Later he starts singing along to Elton John's Sad Songs and tries to get everyone to sing along, to no avail. Excruciating.

He's slight, he's bald, he's limp wristed and weak, he's impotent, he knows that he only has the perspective on things that he does because his father had a lot of good fortune.

At one point he talks about being weirded out by his American friends laughing at 'trailer trash' and makes fun of Anthony Robbins.

I don't think that the end of humanity will be catastrophic. It'll be a gradual decline. As resources get more scarce, starvation will increase among the poorer classes, while the rich will manage to stay comfortable by concentrating more of the wealth. As the mortality rate catches up with the rising birth rate, the population will stabilize, and eventually decline. After a while of declining human population, there won't be enough skilled people to maintain our infrastructure and services, further accelerating the mortality rate and lowering the overall quality of life. The rich will even feel the sting, and the already small pool of privileged people will dwindle as fewer of them will be able to share the dwindling resources. When we don't have enough resources to support a global economy, societies will shrink back into smaller, local communities, like they were before globalization. The decline of humanity will give the biosphere a chance to heal, and global warming will slowly reverse itself, and the populations of species we are endangering will return to their equilibrium. Only when the Earth enters a natural climate shift will catastrophic mass extinctions happen, but humans will destroy their way of life before we can accomplish that feat.

So, if there's anything to take away from that, there's hope that we won't totally fuck things us for the rest of the planet.

You know there are places that weren't affected by the last ice age... What makes you think the next one (assuming humans will be alive and growing crops) will affect all the land on the earth?

Show me the models. Mass extinctions are not that bad.

Seriously though I think we've had our time and proven we're probably not the custodians of all life on earth so... yeah.

Fun while it lasted I guess.

http://www.theguardian.com/environme...ning?CMP=fb_gu

"...extinction rates are 10 times to more than 100 times higher than normal. A sixth mass extinction, therefore, is beginning. They estimate that it would grow to rival the last great catastrophe of the past, when the dinosaurs and much else died out 65m years ago, in as little as three human lifetimes."

The scientist Vaclav Smil, of the University of Manitoba, has calculated that simply measured by mass, humans now make up a third of land vertebrates, and the animals that we keep to eat – cows, pigs, sheep and so on – make up most of the other two thirds. All the wild animals – elephants, giraffes, tigers and so on – are now less than 5% by mass. It’s a measure of how they have been pushed to the fringes by humans.

Previous mass extinctions
Geological history includes many periods when species have died in large numbers. In each of the following, more than half the Earth’s species disappeared:

1 End-Ordovician, 443 million years ago.
This coincides with very rapid glaciation; sea level fell by more than 100 metres, devastating shallow marine ecosystems; less than a million years later, there was a second wave of extinctions as ice melted, sea level rose rapidly, and oceans became oxygen-depleted.

2 Late Devonian, c 360 million years ago.
A messy prolonged event, again hitting life in shallow seas very hard, and an extinction that was probably due to climate change.

3 Permian-Triassic mass extinction, c 250 million years ago.
The greatest of all, ‘The Great Dying’ of more than 95% of species, is strongly linked with massive volcanic eruptions in Siberia that caused, among other effects, a brief savage episode of global warming.

4 Triassic-Jurassic mass extinction, c 200 million years ago.
This has been linked with another huge outburst of volcanism.

5 Cretaceous-Tertiary mass extinction 65 million years ago.
This killed off the dinosaurs and much else; an asteroid impact on Mexico probably did the damage, but the world’s ecosystem may have been weakened by volcanic outbursts in what is now India.
