right. Like in the tech-labor market, where's the FBI on the Ellisons and Zuckerberg's of the world always pushing for foreign visa's to tech workers claiming a shortage here in the states when there isn't one. Or the collusion between Google and Apple to keep wages down by not headhunting each others workers.

Do you have actual knowledge of professional sports venues being built by immigrant labor? Large scale construction projects aren't like landscaping projects. But regardless

You really want to compare what's happening in Qatar right now to anything that happens here? They don't even get paid. They pay for the privilege and then are not allowed to leave. And they die on the job at astonishing rates. Come on.

That's the beauty of it. The US is the only country with the resources and the lack of fucks given about soccer to do it. It's remarkable, really.

From getting their informant to squawk to get himself out of hot water, to these criminals being stupid enough to operate in US borders and use US banks, to Switzerland agreeing to go along with it, it's an incredible and historic moment.

Granted... thus, the low hanging fruit to get some serious PR points worldwide. Not good in the long run imho, whatever comes of this.

Any large scale operation (over 1 mil) in the US is typically legal, contracted, and uses union labor.

Little shit like landscaping isn't.

Stadium jobs almost always use, by law, citizens. The requirements, union needs, etc. mandate that at least, thankfully.

Qatar getting the WC is what's caused this. These dumb fucks using US banks for bribery shows how little they care.

America is the last place on earth you want to use a bank for bribe money.

After ignoring most of the posts here, I say this has a been a good week, finally, probably the first in the year with mostly good news (for this part of the americas, maybe)

EDIT: It took only a few hours, but after saying that companies could not donate to political campaigns the congress just approved another law stating companies could donate money to political parties, which is virtually the same thing. It was good while it lasted.

texas doesnt have unions, just because they have legal paperwork doesnt make it legal

also many illegal immigrants use stolen ssns and they will do hard labor for very little

but i suppose

look, ultimately what i'm trying to say is that we're all slaves when we do not control the means of production but yes we can feel good about being better than qatar, at least

But you can thank your lucky stars we don't live in Paraguay!

i just really think it's naive to think that wall street and banks aren't run the same way and that ultimately most of these justifications about how at least america is better is really just spin

but yeah our worker fatality rate is real low and all the assorted other human rights violations i mean that's obvious. it's a crime against humanity that the entire western world is enabling so there's that dimension too

I like the bit where huge banks and corporates and mining companies regularly fuck civilisation into the dirt for profit, grinding the working classes into a fine paste under the heels of their boots, evading massive tax payments and buying the silence of government bodies left right and centre, and nobody does a fucking thing about it, but when the soccer doesn't get played in America that's when the buck has to stop and corporate corruption needs to be dealt with.

Bilking taxpayers is comparable to killing slave laborers?

What

What does this have to do with "soccer not getting played in America?"

Because the only reason FIFA are getting stung for corruption is because a bunch of American millionaires and billionaires stand to lose a shitload of money if they don't host the World Cup. Until the 1% are losing money, nothing gets done. Again.
