The real problem with the US economy is that virtually all productiviy gains since the 80s have been siphoned off buy the very rich. Working people aren't getting the benefit (in the form of wages) from productivity gains.

There are a lot of reasons for that, but NAFTA isn't a cause. If anything it's just another symptom. The causes are rooted in the way the finance industry works and the lack of collective bargaining rights of workers

Strict protectionism would put the US into an economic depression.

However, no president can impose the type of anti trade policies that Trump is advocating. Only Congress can write such a law. And it's highly unlikely that the next two congresses would radically rewrite all of our trade agreements.

Trump's promises to stop trade with China or Build a wall on the Mexican boarder of punish Ford for building cars in Mexico are all a bunch of lies designed to get working class whites enraged.

He's taking these stump speech issues directly from his racist white supremesist advisors.

There are pro NRA pro Life Dems. there progressives. There are liberals. etc etc While all the dem conservatives are gone from congress, the party is split on many issues.

Clearly Trump just mentioned Obama's race in order to make it less ambiguous exactly which President Obama he was talking about and also there are no racialized problems at all in the American criminal justice system.
