Yeah, I completely agree about white collar crime. There is a lot of money to be saved, there.

I'm only half serious about the euthanasia thing - there is a lot to consider. But I'm open minded enough to consider euthanasia among the potential solutions. Are we going to stop destroying violent dogs, too?

have you ever done anything awful to someone? can you imagine if you could never be forgiven for an act (not in a personal sense from the person, but for your own piece of mind) and you are now not even a person, but the worst act you've committed in your life. forever. does that seem fair to you?

when we talk about psychopathic sex offenders perhaps it makes sense for that to be the case. but even people who have committed violent acts should not be defined by that one act if they have changed considerably and/or the act was borne out of something like a mental illness, drug addiction, or desperation. in other words, people who have done terrible things but are not inherently terrible people deserve help.

of course not everyone is able to change or wants to change but murdering people who have committed a mistake, even a terrible one, is not euthanasia and it is not humane. that goes even for people who murder other people, imo, if there are mitigating circumstances. that doesn't mean they should or shouldn't be let out of jail. mitigating circumstances being age at time of crime, mental illnesses, cognitive impairment, altered state of consciousness (sleepwalking, some cases of drugs), desperation (person who kills an abusive spouse for example), and plenty of other things. i can understand if someone disagrees with what i've just stated with regards to murderers, however for lesser crimes it is not only morally good but logical in the prevention of future crime by the same person.

and of course non-violent drug offenders should not be in jail. but since they are, they deserve therapy while in jail. and i ain't talking about 12 step programs.
