I'm not gonna lie though..if we moved back to wellington I would definitely hit up any ministry contacts I had to wiggle me in to the budget as a policy analyst and get the taxpayer to fund my work reading the day's paper edition of the dom post and completing the crossword down in the caf with my co workers at morning tea time. And slowly lose any sense of self-worth watching the days roll by minute by minute from my spacious government worker cubicle and ergonomic chair.

still true afaik, but they also do a lot of other things which i can only assume means they have enough interesting/non-amoral clients to attract people who aren't desperate incompetents, or whatever it is you're alleging

i think you'd be very surprised if you went for a job in the nz public service now. you've constructed a cushy little fantasy there but i don't know of a single public servant whose workplace is anything like that

yeah they're still the sloppy seconds firm, then. I only know the one person who has accepted a job there and as I have detailed...she was an ambitious plagiarist, so it was hardly surprising.

Well you're into your third straight term of National government - I worked in govt depts during the first two terms of a Labour govt. Swings and roundabouts I guess. I wouldn't come back to a National-led NZ!

I do agree with you about the squeeze being put on. I have two friends that I mourn for - both librarians at the National Library. Things are pretty horrendous there right now.

I meant sometimes when people are so unfamiliar with what constitutes an interesting and useful argument, and are generally only interested in poo-flinging matches, it seems wasteful to put time and energy into creating an interesting and useful argument when I have a huge steaming pile of poo ready to be flung.
