In european soccer, at least, it's not uncommon for teams to be publicly owned, something unheard of in north american pro sports. So probably less chance of jackass owners there.

my guess is that the long term growth prospects of a sports franchise aren't anywhere near as good as for, example, the dow jones overall, so they're just not appealing to hedge funds / investment banks / non-billionaire private investors. just really really rich people who can afford not to worry about profits and/or take on a lot of risk. which would partially explain why it's a big vanity status scene where jackasses predominate

of course you'd generally expect a greater percentage of billionaires to be high-functioning sociopaths relative to the rest of the population, so that'll be a factor too

it's not like there's a popular and influential philosophy that justifies these kind of values as being the only truly rational, ethical thing to believe

Kind of surprised to see so many people down on American football. It's a helluva sport and theres a ton of strategy and talent that is executed.

Vixnix clearly doesn't understand the intricacies of the game.

American Football is definitely my 2nd favorite sport... A real close 2nd too.

Well we don't play it here (here, meaning "the rest of the world") so we only hear about the really noteworthy ones...

Just admit it, it's barely a game and causes more trouble than it's worth.

Manchester City and psg are owned by Saudi princes or something. I don't know what the fuck a sheik is exactly. it's basically a hobby for them. We get footy manager, they buy teams and spend a small portion of their allowance on it.

Also the "boys" (race-charged term?) are millionaires and famous in their hometowns.

NFL players don't really need to be compared to rugby or baseball or soccer or curling players because they built their bodies for different purposes.

They work insanely hard as young adults and into their 30s for fame and glory and money. Plus the play-calling, positional tactics, defensive strategies, etc make it a far more cerebral game than just running into a guy trying to stop the ball from moving.

http://youtu.be/yqyHQ4WbT_o

This cross blitz is a perfect example. The two linebackers attack, one delayed a few steps behind the other, their paths crossing over as to confuse and disorient the quarterback and offensive linemen.

And that's only two players on the field.

It's a methodical, tactical game played by incredible, sensational athletes.

It is in fact a rubbish game, and only exists at the top level for profit, which is probably also why it only exists in the U.S.
