when reading the lyrics i took it as an idiosyncratic pop song written from a paranoid (abductee/icararus/major tom/hero myth/ related) perspective, which is the sort of thing that's very often overlooked in pop music. it's about a person who has seen things out of this world and yet has to be content living of this world. but yet this dilemna is all "in your mind". you would typically have to listen to someone like warren zevon to get that kind of subject matter.
