Default My Dog is on Prozac

..and Xanax

my 13 year old greyhound has been going down hill. In the last 6 months she lost 15 pounds. Her behavior has radically changed. It got to the point where half of her day and night is spent suffering from panic attacks. Hyperventilating, teeth chattering, pissing herself, etc. Before this she only freaked out like that during thunder storms. Now it's every day for no apparent reason. We were worried that it's some kind of dementia and that we'd have to put her down.

a couple of days ago we went to the vet. they ran a few tests and said that physiologically there's nothing wrong. So the vet suggested that we put her on Prozac. We also got a Xanax prescription to help with specific incidents of anxiety.

What shocked me, though, was that without insurance a 30 day supply of Prozac is $95! My monthly meds only cost me $4 (for generics cause insurance). But my old dog costs me 25 times more because Obama or whatever.

poor baby. glad to hear it seems to be helping. i had a cat on prozac before. she was obsessively licking herself to the point she was making her skin raw. it helped her.

one of M's cat does that. She needs medication but it can't be afforded. She puts a cone or this sort of pillow collar around her neck so she can't reach the spots she likes to tear. She has huge nasty scabs constantly on her body. On her neck or thigh. She makes herself bleed and actually gets off on it. She'll rub herself on things to scratch or open her wounds if she can. If you scratch her really hard like hard enough it must be hurting her, she actually loves it and will start licking her cone obsessively while you do it.

She acts like a happy cat otherwise.

did you get consent from your dogs to disclose their medical and mental issues? poor dogs being humiliated and their doctor patient confidentiality ruined.

Are you all into any form of bdsm? Cats pick things up from their owners.
