this semester is going to be so expensive

$300
$100 book for other class
$50-ish book for lab
lab coat/eyeware - ?? $50 or so

$500 plus about $500 for the classes above what my pell grant covers.

i guess $1000 isnt the much but im not used to paying out of pocket for this stuff. going to start getting loans next semester, plus when i transfer to 4-year the cost of credits roughly doubles. and books might be more expensive for upper-level classes, too. i need scholarships.

you probably know this already, but you should never ever never for any reason buy a book from the campus bookstore. Ever. If you don't care about color, get the "Indian Subcontinent Edition." If color is helpful, get the "International Edition" (softcover equivalent). Otherwise, buy used. Or download from TPB or other filesharing site if you don't need a physical copy.

for sure, i know. but in the case of them bundling this shit into a campus-specific book and needing the accompanying homework i have to do online it is sometimes impossible to go without it. for example, i had a computer lit class i had to take with a book you could get literally nowhere else, with software specifically tied to the book. im sure the software was used in other classes, but the exact way it was put together per chapter was not the same as other classes or even previous editions of the same campus-specific book. they literally change the chapters around every semester or two so people cant sell books to each other.

the ISBN on my course site is not findable in google, which is why i emailed the prof. i think i know what book it is, but i am not sure. once i know, i can see if i can take a reasonable risk and get it online for about $50 cheaper. i still need the online software (most likely), and that would cost somewhere from $50-$100 by itself most likely

i almost always get previous editions or no book at all, this one is looking rough though.

campus bookstores are so predatory. like, if you dont have the money to shell out, they know you have to get the books there because your student aid will cover it right away without you needing to get reimbursed.

like this semester i had 4 classes and i rented all my books for like $80, buying used from the bookstore was like $300 or online was like $220.

i didnt know the specifics about which international editions (etc) were which, so thanks for that

i did go bookless for my last math class, but i did have to buy the online access which was like $85 by itself.

i mean if i can use a previous edition i could get out for under $100 but if not it will only be about $15 less to try it with the generic/non-campus-specific version which may end up not being ok for some shitty reason and waste a lot of time and i'll have to return it etc.

dear trotsklusios,

we have thoroughly examined your request and sent it to admittance for review. we were in unanimous astonishment over your assertion that we fuck ourselves, as we feel the need of a second party fucking us requires added effort we aren't willing to take. so moved by this we are jacking off to japanese sex cartoons as of writing.

unfortunately we feel your records don't meet the requirements of TAMU, which require a pig fucking and paying $60 to see toby keith at the rodeo. we regret informing that you will not be incurring insurmountable debt here

sincerely, college

yeah. if i went through the bookstore this shit would have cost me $350 altogether. now it's gonna be $50 total. thanks again pale blue eyes for the cheap calculator.

plus it says we need some other book that's $60 but he said he doesnt know why it's even listed.

i blame barnes and noble. they took over the bookstore last semester.

That's the kind of shit that initially turned me off from college. I can barely tolerate professors who require that sort of insipid material. Busy work, clunky, mandatory online assignments, worksheets... treat us like adults! Fortunately, many professors are committed anti-fascists and work around this obvious moneymaking shit. Have you tried "rate my professor" or anything like this? It may be helpful in searching for red flags regarding which professors work with you, and which professors happily participate in the process of milking students for easy cash

so pbe's calculator got messed up in shipping or something, the screen is gibberish/garbage. after the RAM resets it sometimes is ok for like 4 operations and then fucks up again. so we are going to take care of that but in the mean time I found another one, same exact model, at a valu-pawn for about $32 with a 6 month warranty. score. dear college, still fuck you

gotta wonder about the story of someone pawning their calculator but w/e i guess
