I don't really understand what it is you have against teachers. They have to put up with awful people's awful children for a living and deal with a ton of bureaucratic BS from the state government which is who requires all that bullshit testing. Most teachers hate that they have to base their curriculum around state testing, but they will get fired if they don't.

No, my wife is the teacher. 40k is not including the taxes, insurance, and teacher retirement (which forces you to forfeit your right to social security). Take home pay is much lower like 2700 a month. Then the $20,000 in student loans that you have to pay back for pulling up your bootstraps. And the government bases your loan payment amount on your "on paper" pay before taxes, insurance, retirement. So you're forced to pay $600 a month back out of that 2700 you take home. Might as well go manage a Starbucks or something.

And she doesn't get paid for having the summer off. They take money out of your check each month and essentially make two or three paychecks out of that to cover the summer.
