also, re: imperial quantities in the book

do you round them up to say metric values or just go exactly by the quantities specified in the recipe

those loaves are made using the "french bread" recipe and baguette shaping process outlined in the bread baker's apprentice. very hot oven with a steam pan, yeah

not sure that answers my question
are you following the exact imperial quantities on the recipes or do you round them up to make round metric values?

Good food can be pricy but make sure you enjoy it regularly enough because it's one of the greatest pleasures in life and you'll die soon.

like, round them to multiples of 10 grams? no, there's no point. i always end up adding flour or water (as mentioned, usually the latter) so i just approximate. the conversion is mainly because i haven't developed a good grasp on how ounces convert to grams, so it's more to make sure i'm in the right ballpark rather than for precision

I like when people are all "ill eat healthy and get a salad" and get like a full spicy chicken caesar which is about 800 cals... I know someone like that.

I think their asian one is about 400 though and that's full size. But nothing a red blooded american would eat for a meal...

Apparently a barrel of beer will do the same trick with mice.

I'm doing pretty great. I've spent about $13 this month so far.

Been bringing a protein bar and fiber bar with me. I have problems with keeping snacks like this without eating them all, but I'm leaving them in my car and somehow that is mentally helping me.

so after 11 days, i've spent approx 37$ on eating out - which is awesome. i am definitely on path to meeting my goal, which is staying under $150 a month.

im also eating way healthier and feel better

Thumbs down

for the past couple of months I've been eating nothing all day then at like 8 PM I'll eat a small bag of chips and a can of soda, I'm not really hungry until night but I feel like this kind of diet is going to come back and bite me soon

This has more or less been me for the past two days. Well except soda. But yeah my whole calories intake for two days now has mainly been chips. And some cookies. And it means i eat only once in the day which is hard to do. I have another bag of doritos lying around but i'm not doing that today, i intend to keep this bag unopened for at least a week (yeah that sounds likely...). I guess it's like being on a junk diet..... I havent gained weight doing it of course but i also feel pretty fucking shitty. I have to get back to healthy dieting.

The problem is i thought "ok i can keep dieting and still buy SOME crap as long as i ration it, i feel i have that much willpower now..." but i dont. Thats the whole fucking reason why i stopped buying crap in the first place. Because if its aroun AT ALL i can't control the amount i'll eat. It's all or nothing. They specifically design this kind of food so you WONT be able to stop.

we go out to eat for special occasions and week-end nights when we want pizza!

we're both into buying gizmos for the kitchen so we cook or eat leftovers most nights. and for the past week we've had nothing but latin food (enchiladas con salsa roja, chilaquiles, sancocho, bollos, black beans....).

i'm hungry now.
