Mark Gardener came to NZ a few years ago for a solo acoustic gig, but I missed it. I really hope the band comes this way.

are slowdive still a thing that tours and exists

just wondering where it all stands in the "shoegaze bands who weren't mbv" spectrum

Slowdive also reunited recently and have been touring. Amongst most shoegaze enthusiasts, MBV, Slowdive and Ride are considered like the holy trinity of shoegaze bands. Hence the complete circle.

Ride are by far the worst of those three. MBV were the best with Slowdive not far behind. Ride never really impressed me too much. I never find myself coming back to them like Slowdive.

The vocals of Ride really bug me. I've heard it said before that they sound too schoolboyish and that is kind of accurate. The singers voice is so young and high pitched sounding. It's kind of hard to take him seriously.

I'm sorry man. I just can't get past how awful the singing sounds to me. I will say this about them. They do have a good drummer which makes some of the songs almost interesting.

I don't really listen to the Pumpkins anymore. All my recent posts on the SP board about my fondness for Machina era songs is just stuff I listened to years ago and still remember

There's a fairly new British band called Sulk that sound a lot like Ride.
