Most cheesecakes use cream cheese, which doesn't even taste anything like normal cheese.

And yeah it's not really cheese.

Gamebooks like these (titles may have been changed)

(I actually have all those and now find it hard to refer to them by their proper titles)

well it is cheese yes but I meant like... not in a traditional way. It in fact doesn't taste very cheesy.

Alright so you don't like cheese. Might as well give up on life right now. For how little enjoyment you'll get out of it...

It's similar in principle to fruit cake

Let's put these two delicious things together in theory it should be great

I used to not be too keen on fruit cake as a kid but I wised up. Most store bought fruit cake is meh though. Ideally you do like my grandma did, make it early and let it age. It is a bit of a misnomer though. Candied fruit cake they should call it.

yeah see that was a bit confusing for me in the days. Theres two steve Jackson. Steve Jackson Uk and Steve Jackson US. Steve Jackson UK invented Fighting Fantasy (that I posted above) with Ian Livingstone. They mainly did gamebooks though also designed some games. Steve Jackson US made all kinds of games but mainly rpg games and ALSO gamebooks. What's more, and this is where it gets confusing, he ALSO wrote gamebooks in the Fighting Fantasy series (like the one with the robot and dinosaurs seen above for one). As a kid I never knew there was a difference. Its like "Steve Jackson (UK) presents.... A Steve Jackson (us) gamebook...." Both are successful game designers but if you're in the US, you probably only were exposed to Steve JAckson from Steve Jackson games.

well the one Elph was posting the books of IS the Steve Jackson you know about.

it's mainly because I'm a gamebook collector that I know Steve Jackson US at all I'm ashamed to say... I'm not that knowledgeable in board games and pen and paper rpgs, you need friends for those. Jackson US also published some gamebooks under his Steve Jackson Games company though, I have I think all the ones he did.

It's so much fun. It's way better than any video game.

It's the adult version of when you were little and you played pretend with your friends

Though there are certain types of players that absolutely ruin it and make you want to stab them in the face.

Munchkins and DM's that don't want you to deviate from their story plans

Nah. Gamebooks I collect are single player. I know they have gamebooks made to be played with pnp rules and with a party of characters but this isn't that kind. They're not based on Pnp games. They have their own set of rules explained in the fist few pages, simpler than Pnp most of them, like rpg lite. These never caught on in the US but it was huge in Uk and France and by extension then, Quebec at least because they released the French editions here. Like selling millions huge. Look up fighting fantasy or Lone Wolf, they are like Choose your own adventure sorta except not kid oriented (well they mainly targeted tweens and teens but also adults but I started when I was like 8 or 9) and with rpg rules, combat and stuff.

The craze was so big in the 80s loads of series were made but none got close to the numbers that Lone Wolf or FF did. Still some are actually better than those. I have about 300 gamebooks of about 30 different series or so and that's not even close to covering all they released (though I have all the really good ones). there's actually 2 or 3 series you CAN do with other people but its not required. Some of those 2 players books are pretty inventive cause you have to read two different books but at the same time... but you can also just read either on your own.

The evolution of video games rpgs is what killed gamebooks but they still exist sorta ...mainly being kept alive by nostalgic nerds like me

this is my bookshelf of gamebooks displaying my utter nerdism in my living room entrance for all to see and marvel at:

though ive got about 30 more since that was taken some years ago
