It's the first time I've been in the suburbs since 2005 when I was a senior in high school. It's been terrible and enjoyable. I'm still 20 minutes from Pgh. But it feels like the middle of nowhere sometimes.

And yes my white trash truck has a Slayer plate on it. It also has a CB radio.

Technically where I live is urban but it's not tightly packed urban. Like if you were playing Sim City 3000 it would be the light green or whatever, I don't remember which colors were which.

I mean I'm technically in the Miami Metro Area but that area extends like 80+ miles north of Miami. South FL is weird because no one lives in the center of the state (swampland) so the metro areas just extend north and south and inland just like 20 miles max, some places like where I grew up were "far West" at about 8 miles inland

basically if you're ever lost you can find I-95 in about 10 minutes max and know where you are. or if you see a sign for beaches, which are everywhere.

Now I just want to play Sim City!

I know what you mean. Most modern cities have suburbs that are part of the city. Of course this stupid city doesn't though.

well maybe without the "fucking". i feel like that pushes it a bit too far.

but a great song. perfectly conveys the feeling of a time and an era, in that it's both classic 90's pop and in that that's what it feels like to be a teenager

We get these white cockatoos that come and graze in the backyard. I think this time they're eating bits of seeds left behind by the chickens - you can see where the chicken enclosure has previously been from the different colours of the lawn - Mr. Vix built it so it so that it could be moved around on the grass.

I'd love to use it to troll them, or ideally warn people of police, but nobody's ever on...

From what I can tell, trucking died in the late 90s. It used to be a noble "modern cowboy" kind of thing, but since then most companies just hire inexperienced drivers for pennies on the dollar and they drive like the inexperienced assholes they are.

Experience and knowledge no longer necessary. The company just wants someone to steer.

when I was about 17 I was eating breakfast at a very backwoods gas station/general store type place in Tennessee, and a portly man in overalls with an impossibly high voice (almost sounded like whistling when his voice went up) and very few teeth seated himself with me and tried to recruit me into the world of trucking. He said it was like working for yourself and if freedom was important to me, I should seriously consider it. He said I would get to see the world and "put that hammer down," whatever that means. I felt kind of like he was trying to induct me into a secret society or something. or it may have been a gay thing, who knows.

He asked me what I was into and I said I liked to play music, and he started telling me about Elvis Presley's days as a trucker. At this point I had surreptitiously moved all my food from my plate onto my napkin so I had an excuse to gtfo pronto

In addition it's very common now for companies to convince drivers they'd like to drive as "independent contractors" and get them to sign highly unfavorable agreements where they are essentially forced to "buy" a shitty old truck from the co then "lease" its services back to the co, while co gets off the hook for employment-related taxes, expenses

Net effect is u have a lot of untrained, financially strapped drivers out there who are getting crankier and crankier by the minute. Yet another good reason why it's not a good idea to bother truckers in traffic
