Corrine Brown represents this district and usually wins by 40 points or so. A judge ordered the maps be redrawn because fucking duh. This was her response to it.

“I’m disappointed with the ruling,” Brown said, elaborating on a lengthy statement she released Thursday night on the matter. “Yeah, of course.”

“Let me just tell you, I don’t care who’s happy,” she said, visibly agitated, at the final House votes of the week. “The point of the matter is that we celebrated in this Capitol last week the 1965 Voting Rights Act. It is the law of the land.”

“And we will go all the way to the United States Supreme Court, dealing with making sure that African Americans are not disenfranchised.”

“We’re not going back,” she added. “We’re not going to be disenfranchised.”

“Period,” she said, raising her voice for emphasis. She added that this is a threat “to every African American elected official in every capacity.”

So in spite of the maps being drawn to favor republicans running for office, she is siding with them on the matter so she can run unopposed every two years in spite of being wholly incompetent and corrupt.

Also, there's a thing called news, which is how I learn about what's going on in the world. I don't get my information on politics from your old posts.

The Austin gerrymandering issue, for instance, was recently on the John Oliver show. And the gerrymandering and fraud that went on out in the open under Tom Delay was well reported at the time (a decade or more ago) in some of the national media.

Nobody I know is against gay marriage, but there are people who think Unions and taxes are the root of all evil and stuff

If Republicans were to ease themselves out of their social positions, I think they'd win every state. Americans are so conservative when it comes to the issues of taxes, regulation, social spending etc.

I feel like maybe the Democrats have more info on this and reason to be cautious but it seems like they should go full on populist. I think they could even flip a lot of social conservatives in the south by running off a platform of "Christian bumpkins against the wealthy book smart elitists".

I feel like the current strategy seems really condescending to voters. Instead of it being the 99% vs. the 1% it sounds like the 1% telling people how to live.

Or put another way, so far gone and programmed by the Progressives to not see the ill effects of one party rule for two decades now in the Cali legislature.

The GOP gave up on the state long ago on the electoral front, and with that, isn't a priority. There's a handful of decent ones (Tom McClintock for one), but overall locally the R's are a feckless bunch with little spine.

Those billions in unfunded pension liabilities are all on the D's and the hits just keep coming with old as dust Jerry Brown backhanding the unions again. The Bay Bridge fiasco would make the Mafia blush.
