So with Republicans winning as many Senate seats as they are we can go ahead and say good bye to the tiny shred of hope for any positive change until at least Obama's term is over

Get this: according to CBS, 60% of people voting republican in congressional races were voting against Obama. Despite the fact that the republicans have controlled the house for some time now. But Obama's totally responsible for the state of the country

I'm just glad that Al Franken and Mark Dayton held on. Things are actually going quite well up here in MN, and the last thing we need is cuts to education or public transit fucking that up. Also: lol @ Stewart Mills trying to take the iron range (a region dominated by folks who do grueling physical labor for their entire lives and literally need unions to survive)

I mean just look at this guy

"Cuts in Education" are never cuts because of baseline budgeting. That (not so) political slight of hand has always given liberals the Platitude high ground that continues to this day. It's a regurgitated DNC talking point meant to pray on Libtard emotions, and it works.

The state has been a virtual one party rule by the commies for years and years now. Any person who reveals the fallacy of the state Pension program is labeled radical. It's a joke, but its also sick. And so, welcome to California.

I'd have to say that I was surprised by the amount of conservatives I met while living in the East bay and on the peninsula. Are you still in the bay area, toc?

there are a lot of conservatives because there is a LOT of money in the bay area. But there's also a lot of income inequality. And the type of people who vote conservative are far outnumbered in the bay area by the people who are being fucked over. IE. latinos, African americans, LGBT, etc.

you live in a big state which has a lot of racial diversity and a lot of moderate to liberal voters. The GOP is weak in California because the National GOP scares the living hell out of many Californians.

I know several millionaires who live in California, and even they won't vote for conservatives because of shit like Prop 8.

The problem with CA, (and I have to have this discussion with conservatives all the time) is that everyone wants to live here.

It's really difficult to govern such a large and diverse population. For example, our education system is ranked really low but it's because our state is almost last place in the student to teacher ratio. We have way more students than we've figured out how to manage.

Though the solution is really the same as the solution to every other problem in the US. Reduce income inequality and strengthen infrastructure by taxing the rich more and spending the money on things that benefit everyone.

it's interesting that California didn't have to radically Gerrymander it's districts for Democrats to do well statewide. Compared to Texas where the takeover of the legislature involved fraud, the worst gerrymandering in the country and the State Police being sent out to arrest democratic lawmakers for not agreeing to GOP gerrymandering.

As an example the city of Austin, TX has 6 house reps. 5 of whom are right wing Republicans. How does the most liberal city in Texas elect 5 of 6 right wingers? The districts are rigged. Michigan was heavily gerrymandered after the last census. in 2012 the vote for House seats and state legislature statewide was majority Democratic, but house representation in congress was 9 republicans and 5 Democrats, and both houses of the state legislature have near super majorities of republicans. I live in a liberal city, but none of the congressional reps in the region are Democrats. My rep, Justin Amash, supposedly represents the city, but is only in office because of gerrymandering

texas' gerrymandering is godawful, the way they've nutralized austin is just incredible. yet another reason i have no faith in this "democratic" system.

i made a thread about austin's gerrymandering four years ago. eulogy was convinced it would be overturned. i still laugh at that, bitterly, since it hasn't and will basically be the same until they subdivide it even more.
