Fashion designers dressed and facilitated the creation of the Sex Pistols. John Lydon was a regular customer at VW+McLaren's store (which had been around since '71) before ever singing a note. Did VW+McLaren single-handedly invent the punk aesthetic? No but they were influential contributors to the visual culture which really wasn't a revolutionary thing anyway, this whole sex dungeon aesthetic has been a thing with bored bourgeoisies for a minute now, and then there are the bikers and skinheads and teddy boys and so forth who preceded all this. Designers had as much to do with the scene as any angry teens.

My point about designers was that, yes, they had a big influence on the punk fashion once it started to be a mainstream thing, but originally designers like Westwood were obsessed with and influenced by the low income fashion trends that arose organically.

They then shaped it into different directions and exaggerated certain parts of it such as the safety pins and the sex dungeon thing

I really, really liked Nirvana and The Pumpkins and Radiohead. I even played in a grunge band.

I'm pretty embarrassed by it now, but whatever

they do and did make chain wallets and sold them at journeys or whatever the other one was

the real punk rock shit to do was to find chain and make it yourself, which is what i did

i still don't get what was so fucking amusing to you about a dog chain. i used one too. That was pretty much which kind you used for the most part, big link ones were not favored. or whatever the hell a real chain is. what are chains for dogs not real chains? do they have not enough of the undefinable quality of being a chain for you?
