that oft-cited statistic "only x% of americans have a passport" is to show that americans are myopic and unworldly. but international travel is available to the lucky few who have the disposable income to do so, so it may not be practical to even have one.

I think many here are myopic, but America has nearly every climate, natural wonder, cityscape, country, etc. so there is less reason to go abroad when you have so much within our borders.

International travel doesn't have to be expensive.

Ugh yeah so many people I went to school with are still just in that cycle where they work some shitty job for 4 months and then just go backpacking for a year and they love to post all the photos and talk about what a rich fulfilling life they're leading and I just think "All you've done for the last 8 years is live in shitty youth hostels and hang out with other shitty annoying backpackers and sit in parks drinking cheap wine in all different countries like that somehow teaches you anything about anything except how to say 'my friend has had too much to drink and requires medical attention' in six different languages".

I'm far enough north in Georgia that I can take a weekend trip to the blue ridge and get some fresh mountain air. Thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
