As far as I know, it's all done on paper. The polling stations close at 10pm and the count begins. Assuming there are no major recounts we should know by 7am tomorrow morning.

It's a bit sinister, but that's how you retain power and control. You have to have a unified identity over any others. Any other identifiers would have to be relegated as sub-identifiers in the national consciousness and not as important as the main, over-arching one. You can only "celebrate diversity" so much before you actually do become divided.

what I find interesting about these results is that 3 of the 4 biggest cities voted yes. Looks like the rural areas overrode that in the end, which is the inverse to the cultural tone in the U.S.
