I'll do it! Anything to get away from all that NAGGING and NOISE...from, uh, a family of love!

On the few occasions Homer gets to properly rant he's so amazing. Case in point:

Quote:
Never, Marge. Never. I can't live the button-down life like you. I want it all: the terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles. Sure, I might offend a few of the bluenoses with my cocky stride and musky odors - oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called "City Fathers" who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about "What's to be done with this Homer Simpson?"
And

Quote:
STEALING! How could you? Why do you think I took you to see all those "Police Academy" movies, FOR FUN? I DIDN'T HEAR ANYONE LAUGHING, DID YOU? except at that guy who made sound effects. Now where was I? Oh, yeah: stay away from my booze.

what i love about the simpsons is all the homages. if i watch an episode and don't catch any references i assume i missed something.

they've recreated at least a frame or two of pretty much every classic movie ever made.

jesus i didn't even know that one, what movie is that from?

i like the subtle one on mr. plow where skinner claps bart on the back and says "THANKS TO YOUR DAD WE DIDN'T HAVE TO MISS A SINGLE DAY OF SCHOOL" and then when he walks away the kids pop up from behind the snow drifts and start pelting him with snowballs a la sonny in the godfather, least i think it was

Skinner's Valentines Day Vietnam flashback Apocalypse Now is one of the greatest cutaway gags in the show's history, and on that note i'd like to nominate I Love Lisa for top tier.

So i've gone through and compiled a list of all the episodes we've mentioned so far:

Homer's Enemy (Frank Grimes)
Cape Feare (Sideshow Bob/Houseboat)
22 Short Films About Springfield
The Front (Bart & Lisa write for Itchy and Scratchy in Grampa's name)
Rosebud (Mr Burn's Teddy Bear)
Last Exit To Springfield (Lisa Needs Braces)
Marge Vs The Monorail
Lisa's First Word
Itchy and Scratchy: The Movie
Homer Goes To College
Selma's Choice (Duff Gardens)
You Only Move Twice (Hank Scorpio)
Duffless (Homer goes a month without drinking)
Mr Plow
The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show
Homer Vs Lisa & The 8th Commandment (Homer steals cable)
Bart The Murderer
Flaming Moe's
Separate Vocations (Marge works at the power plant)
Bart Gets Famous (I didn't do it)
Two Cars In Every Garage And Three Eyes On Every Fish (Blinky/Burns runs for mayor)
Homer and Apu (Apu Lives With The Simpsons)
Kamp Krusty
Two Bad Neighbours (George Bush)
El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer (Homer's spirit journey)
King-Size Homer (Homer gets fat)
Homer At The Bat
Homerpalooza
The Cartridge Family (Homer buys a gun)
Homer Vs The Eighteenth Amendment (Beer baron)
Lemon Of Troy (Shelbyville)
Stark Raving Dad (Michael Jackson)
Brother From Another Series (Sideshow Bob/Cecil/Dam)
Who Shot Mr Burns Pts 1 & 2
The Springfield Files
Homer Badman (Gummi Venus De Milo)
The PTA Disbands (Teacher Strike)
Fuzzyroes nominated the Australia episode but even I, an Australian, don't think it's that top notch. Do you disagree?
Bart On The Road (Road trip/sun sphere)
Mountain Of Madness (Homer/Burns trapped in the log cabin)

That there? A mighty fine list.

the simpsons go to australia is one of the first episodes where you can see where the simpsons are starting to go wrong i mean it's funnier than some of the fucking horrible simpsons go to brazil whatever the fucks that they do now but yeah still kinda low grade. basically if they leave the country it's probably going to be lacking. homer and apu is better because it has the whole are you the guy who owns quickie mart? really? you? thing in it and also who needs the quickie mart song and isn't really based around making themed jokes around the "wacky location" that they were in

it went wrong when they started getting shitty writers. people shit on post season 8 stuff but it was still funny (with caveats) because it's self referential and aware. circa season 20 stuff though is absolutely terrible

I recorded every episode during the marathon a few weeks ago. I was going to watch every episode but by season five I was skipping through episodes and only watching the good ones or episodes I thought could be interesting. I'm on season 20 now.

Did they really cut down the aspect ratio so FX could show them all in 16:9?
