having hawaiian beer right now (from Kona Brewing Co.). I'm tasting myself thru three types, the IPA, the Lager and the Golden Ale. The IPA is great, Lager takes 2nd place. The Golden Ale sucks...too flat

their bottles are a visual delight

i don't drink during the week any more beyond a glass or two of red wine, but i have plans to sit in this bar for several hours on saturday and have some crafty beer and excellent pizza and conversations, it's going to be great

it's one of those places where they have local stuff on tap plus a couple of guest kegs from overseas and a fridge full of rare-in-NZ imported beers. i'll have to be careful; even the 5% beers really go to my head now that i don't drink much

with any luck it'll be warm enough to sit outside – they're the only place i know with a non-smoking courtyard, it's fantastic

I'm trying to find a beer groove to settle into for the weather but I dunno what to drink. I'd like to go for saisons primarily but they are usually expensive and not very prevalent on draft

Firestone Walker makes a Pilsner that is pretty good I guess.

For warm weather I always want a cheap crisp lager. A good porch beer.

Every time NHL playoffs roll around I grab a case of Molson Canadian or Labatt Blue. That way I can drink away the sadness for under $30 a case.

I drink every 2-3 days, but not much...1-2 bottles max (of 0,5 l). I agree with duovamp, Lager beer is quite drinkable (since it's lighter). for summer. In winter i love the strong beers to warm up

you definitely can't beat a good crisp pilsner on a hot day

there's been a decent increase in the number of flavoursome but not super-boozy IPAs here lately, around the 4% alcohol mark, which has been great to see – have you seen a similar trend over there?

a few years ago the craft beer market here was like 90% stunt IPAs >6%

i also like hefeweizen when it's hot but it's a bit more work to get through

anyway: pilsner, ~4% IPA, hefeweizen – those are my picks

Yeah. The term being used is "session beers."

Founders makes a really good one.

I don't consider everything over 6% to be a stunt. If I'm being honest I rarely buy or order a beer below that point

We still have tons and tons and tons of hoppy and super boozey ipas around. I generally enjoy them but not all the time obviously.

We had some sour beer dinner pairing thing once an it was super intriguing but all that stuff is mostly high priced imports.

My best go to is probably half acre's Senita. Which probably isn't available too far from chicago.

Oh and zombie dust by three floyds when you can actually find it. Also probably not available many places outside chicago.

Midwest beer is the best beer wooo (west coast might have an argument. East doesn't imo)

if you can get your hands on a 4 pack of this you'd probably enjoy it. Brewery Vivant in Grand Rapids. It's a small Belgian & French style brewery, but I've seen their cans distributed outside Michigan lately.

IMO their best all around beer is their Farmhand

Yeah I think so. But not like lindemans kriek lambic. These didn't taste like fruit juice and were medium to high on the alcohol scale.

Kiiinda wish I remembered their names.

Good Belgian beers are so good but I can't often justify the price hike with so many good domestic micros around.

I'll look out for that stuff scotty. An imperial saison sounds slightly oxymoronic but also fun!

yeah, i understand.
that's why i drink belgian beers most of the time. because the imported stuff is so much more expensive, and what we have here is definitely good enough, and there is a lot of diversity.

gueuze isn't the same as kriek. kriek is lambic + cherries. gueuze is just a blend of lambic. if you get the real stuff, old and not sweetened, it's very sour. not many people like it.
an "acquired taste" is the euphemism for "it tastes like puke" in this case. i like it though.

the cider made in this area has more alcohol than most craft beers. There are several cider "brew pubs" in Grand Rapids. Mainly because this is a huge apple growing region. some of the apple orchards here also make dry ciders which have very little of that sweet/sour taste that some of the big brands do.

if you're in brittany you gotta have cider.

if you're in belgium you gotta have belgium beer of course... it's a class of its own and they're just 3 or 4 euros at any pub. Quebecois microbreweries make a lot of "belgium-style" beers but I don't think they compare + most give me reflux so I don't dare try too many.
