i was encouraged to apply for a position at work and now i gotta write a 2 page essay outlining my vision for effectively connecting with the surrounding community.

too bad i really want the job.

Try counting your till prior to your shift. When I worked in retail I was once short 9 dollars and I couldn't understand why. Then like a couple days later someone was over 9 dollars. I then figured out something was up and the money wasn't counted right. It never happened again because I worked in a different part of the store where different people counted money.

i had to fucking deal with israli customers that flew in to witness a bunch of outgoing evaluation testing on a unit that we build for them that they use in their murder machines all last week. this project has always been a disaster and these customers have always been assholes. the unit wasn't built on time so i had to wing it - usually we run through all testing before their arrival so there are no surprises. a certain rotational resistance tolerance was out of spec by ~40 micro ohms. MICRO ohms. and the torque in one direction was slightly higher than in the other. heaven forbid this causes them to miss a palestinian school. fuck sakes. all eyes in the company were on me all week, and i ended up getting all this shit sorted out and taken care of and sent them packing. i have no idea if i will be viewed by management as the reason things didn't go smoothly, or commended for being able to handle the situation.

oh, and i don't even normally do this job. i was filling in for the normal guy because he was shipped off to singapore. i need a beer.

Unless you pulled other shit there prior, they should have given you a warning and if they really needed you they should have tried to contacted you to find out where you were. yes, sometimes you have to fight really stupid shit at work. Some managers are just bullshit.

they aren't firing you for not calling in sick, they are firing you for being incompetent when you do show up. they're just using this as the excuse to try and not hurt your feelings. if they wanted you in the building you would still have a job.

when i came in that night either i counted it or the back office person did. you are supposed to count it yourself but sometimes it is too busy and the back office person does. either way, if it was counted wrong it would have all come out right in the end (since the office has to balance, if it was miscounted it would be over somewhere else) and it didn't. it was my fault, im afraid.

Later I found out that people were using my register when I was off on break

i'm one of 4 people in my office working on a particular type of project. one just quit and is leaving in two weeks and there will be 6 weeks until a new hire arrives. i got stuck with a bunch of his projects so now i'm gonna be super busy.

never had a problem until i went to the office where i started dealing with way more money. people do sometimes use other people's registers but doubtful someone else did it. i dont think anyone else used mine that night. i change my PW all the time so no one just can up and use it without asking me. i mean i probably handle 20-50k a day in cash. shortages happen all the time up there to basically everyone. just not so many in just a few month

i don't understand why anyone is ever allowed to put their mitts in someone else's drawer. it's just asking for trouble.

i have never heard of it being okay for people to use other folk's registers except at that local pizza joint i worked at and even then only the cooks had keys

the other cashier jobs i've had we basically had to sign for our drawer when we got it. lock it in the register, at the end of the day you take it out, count it, then sign another paper to check in in.

i had a manager at a gas station tell me i was always short, by a lot. later i found he was stealing it.

the only place i worked at that took it seriously was McD's. There was a person on staff at all times whose sole responsibility was to deal with the cash. whenever someone took their drawer to the back office to count it, there were always three people present.

The wife is a 7-11 veteran and it's the same there. every other retail or food service establishment i worked for nobody cared. it's really weird.
