Yeah inpatient units are like jail. First time I had leave, they took all us loons across the road to the park. not all, maybe 4 or 5. My boyfriend at the time came along for the walk, he wasn't a patient though. I ran across the grass and then just sort of fell on it because I was so happy to be able to run and fall over and feel the grass.

Sort of like a cooped up dog, I guess...anyway, after the walk we all went back inside, and I don't think I did myself any favours by running around and falling over like that, because I had to stay for a fair bit longer before they released me. It was quite a horrible feeling

I have to go to an inpatient clinic for my meds every other month. there are electronic locks on the doors to keep all the anorexics from walking out. once you're inside it definitely feels like being in some kind of jail.

yeah inpatient hospitals suck. ive been in voluntary ones and an involuntary commitment one. the voluntary they at least let you outside in a courtyard and the front door wasn't locked (but if you left without medical clearance without doing the 24 hour against medical advice paper, they wouldn't give you your ID and other belongings). the involuntary one you got to smoke in a cage "outside" and that was it. and it had plastic furniture.

I love my job right now. Best job I've ever had and probably will have. Too bad it's only a two year contract. I make a wage which supports five people, I teach three hours a week to a small group of students on a subject of my choosing. The rest of the time I write articles and books on subjects I care about. I cannot imagine it getting much better. I have no boss and apart from the three hours of teaching, I make my schedule as I see fit. I get $6000 a year for travel/meals/hotels anywhere in the world I choose to go. I regularly meet intelligent and interesting people.

I've been an inpatient for a long time. Now they're releasing me back into the wild. I can't say I'm thrilled, though.
