I was like Mcd is a shitty job.
Seriously nothing in that thread was about my work ethic or attitude or anything. It's just more of you making strange assumptions.

And in my current job, the people who handle firing and such are not even the same people who work with me. So it has nothing to do with what kind of employee I am. If it was up to the people I actually work with I wouldn't have anything to worry about.

But it's just like, hey we found out you didn't come to work yesterday. And we caught you being late a couple times earlier. So now we're firing you.
But I'm like, hey I was sick and I called a bunch of times and couldn't get a hold of anyone. And they're like sorry we already put the request to fire you in, it's up to labor relations now.

If you have been given warnings prior, it makes sense. If not, there is some other issue. Like they just want to get rid of an extra worker or hirer someone else. They always can stop the termination if they want, that is just a lie.

It would be fair if I really just didn't show up and didn't call. But I have phone records of me calling multiple times and sitting on hold for almost half an hour.

The place I work is always firing people from my department to the point where they're always short staffed. Like 5 people in the last 6 months or so were fired from my department. Almost all of the remaining employees are trying to get transfers because they disagree with management.

Saw a hard working mother of three get fired for being late one too many times the other day and it was pretty awful.

I don't get what their strategy is here. Nobody who fits the model employee they're looking for is going to work there for very long.

I know it is fucked up, but at customer service it is practically impossible to never let someone in your drawer. There are only two registers at most, plus lottery is its own thing. Especially if you're on lottery, someone else will guaranteed be in your shit. Unless you want customers bitching and to never go to the bathroom. That said, I've never been short on lottery and I try to make people get on that instead of my register when necessary.

It is a flaw in Publix's system. It shouldn't be happening, but it has all probably been my fault however it would be nice to know it definitely was. Publix is a terrible company to steal from, they have several cameras on you and they prosecute. But yes, it is terrible I am forced to trust other people.

That said, no one else is coming up short all the time, so unless someone is targeting me specifically and also stealing really boldly while only doing a few transactions while I am standing right next to them, it's not happening.

I am also not intended to blame psychology, just to explain why it is happening. I'm not going to give up on it, but I think I am being kicked out of the office temporarily after my suspension is over. Sucks, the job is a lot better.

Before I started school this would have really bothered me. Now I have bigger things to worry about. It's just a part time job. I can get an A in a 6 week chemistry course but have trouble with this. So I know I'm not a complete idiot. I have tried to slow down more but maybe I need to try harder. I always feel compelled to go as fast as I can.

Very true that it's really difficult to keep other people out of your till. If things get busy right as you have to go to lunch or something often there isn't time to switch them out.

Short register is super frustrating because it's hard to correct if you're not stealing. If you just have a concentration problem there's almost nothing you can do to remedy the situation

If they prosecute, I think you should count your till before and after lunch and demand to know who was using the till while on you were on lunch or find another job. What if they accuse you of stealing?

Well it's totally true it's nice that they didn't fire me when they could have when I was I late a bunch when I first started. Would have been super easy too, you don't get any sort of union protection for like the first 6 months.

Most people who were late or something within that first 6 months got fired, but I didn't because I'm not the horrible employee you guys seem to think I am. The order to fire me came from the new manager who has nothing but a record to go on.

But still I'm likely to keep my job because they can't fire me or suspend me if I can prove that I made a large enough effort to give notice of my absence. This stuff is in the contract.

you're a pretty horrible employee if you think consistently showing up late was no big deal, and now you think you're entitled to being employed because of some technicality after you've been consistently 15 minutes late, which is A LOT by the way, now you were over an hour late or whatever i just can't read it because of the tears of laughter in my eyes

Mostly it was like max 10 minutes or so. But 15 on a couple ocassions. Maybe like 8 times or so when I was taking the bus idk. Not like literally everyday. I wouldn't call someone a terrible employee for being late ocassionally. Hell, my supervisors roll in late.

But I'm a pretty great employee otherwise. No other problems.
I've never called in sick so it's somewhat strange that the one day I do they try to fire me over it.

stop loling you fucking cretin. if you showed up on time you wouldn't have this problem. if you actually were McD's employee of the month, which i sincerely doubt, then that is actually something you can be proud of in your short life, there's no fucking shame in being good at work. jesus.

you were late by 15 minutes eight times in what, a couple months? and then you called in sick one day and they were like "fuck this undependable assclown" and they fired you. and they should have.

people who work for a living and have to depend on the bus plan for it to be late, they get up super early and they are at work super early. you can't be assed because you're a privileged suburban white kid who thinks the world revolves around your wishes

It was 8 times in about a year. Still pretty shit, but 8 times in a couple months would have got me fired for sure.

Ya but they have to warn you. I don't know how it works in america though but here they have to warn you that you are on a slippery slope or you can sue them.

However, I think they did warn him and he is omitting that to be honest. Maybe he didn't even pass probation period. For sure things don't add up.

Way past prohbation period, but yes they did warn me, and then I wasn't late anymore.
