i'm with Alexei Lalas on this one, when its right there and then gone, fuck. Unless they win outright, US is looking at Belgium.
overall its been great though. I do hope all the Klinnsman bashing and Donovan sentimentality is over with. You wanna win the cup, you can't take sabbaticals. It's a complete mindset and keeping LD around would have went against all that. He's got the team playing great at the right time. |

germany and the US both have a shared interest. if they draw their position in the round of 16 is secured. i don't think Germany has much incentive to abstain from kicking the shit out of the US other than the heightened risk of booking/injury. who knows how thursday will play out. woulda been nice to win today, but we're still in a good position.

another weak game by belgium. they won again, so they're through, but they have to improve their game or it'll be over in no time.
nobody here seems to care that much though. people were celebrating as if belgium had won the world cup. |

Unless they make an actual agreement to draw (which is against the rules), no one is going to abstain from anything. Both teams can play defensively and avoid taking risks, which increases the chance of a draw, but if they have the chance to counter-attack, they will. They aren't going to waste the opportunity only to see their opponents score 5 minutes later.
