50-65 minutes - pretty much all Ghana. but the USA were good value for the win, especially picking themselves up after conceding the equalizer. well played, MONEY IN THE BANK FELLAS

If Altidore is out does Donovan get the call?

Aren't rosters locked 24 hours prior to the first match and not changeable during the entire tournament?

Jozy's injury looked like a lot of pain to me.
But I know next to nothing about the complications with leg injuries, does this mean that's it for Altidore?

i was out at grant park for the first 60 minutes so i didn't see much what happened to altidore or besler. was it bad?

very gratifying win though. who the hell is john brooks? guy came out of nowhere. i think they have a good chance against portugal though. not germany though.

Altidore immediately stopped, grabbed his hamstring, and fell. I doubt he sees the fiekd anytime soon judging by the reaction. He's having MRIs tomorrow.

Besler they said had a tight hamstring so they subbed for precautionary reasons.

Between those and Dempsey's fucked up nose that he can't breath through, a tough night injury-wise.

that's the question i really meant to ask. I remember Klinsman saying Donovan would be the first to get the call should someone go down, but it was the before the tourney.

watch out for this guy; he makes the game. belgium wouldn't be half as good without kevin debruyne.

Betting odds were about even too. Rankings are inherently flawed, but so is pretty much everything outside of a playoff series as far as discerning who the better team is.

Because you said Ghana is a much better team and that's just not true?

it's absolutely true, they just aren't ranked very highly at the moment AND you just acknowledged that rankings don't mean much

i mean seriously man go compare the rosters and tell me how many top flight european teams Americans play for. no, wait, don't bother the answer is ZERO. Best we can do is that Howard has been a premier league keeper for many years now and some of our defenders were regulars for mid-table premier league clubs.

bradley played for roma for a couple years, that's about it

Ghana might not be the "better" team but for a majority of that game they were playing better, keeping pressure on the US and controlling possession. What's surprising is after that barrage the US only gave up a single goal. Those boys did a great job against the Ghana attack.

It probably sounds cliche but, and I think this especially true in soccer, a team is much different than a collection of individual players. The rankings are based on performances of teams in international competition. And look at the top. It doesn't appear to be wildly inaccurate in that respect.

I'm not an expert. I played for a while but I don't really watch much. But all of the analysis I've seen so far has aligned with my thoughts on last night. And really, betting odds are generally pretty great indicators of team quality. USA's odds of winning the whole thing are 150 or 200 to one. Ghana's are much longer. One book I saw had 300-1 and another had 750-1. Others have them at 500. I think that's the best indicator we have. Followed by the rankings. I don't think "number of players playing in Europe" is better.

Just one man's opinion.
