pavementtune despite your claim that I have misinterpreted what you said, I can't figure out what else you possibly could have meant by coming in here and bothering me over not using orthodox terminology for the menorah other than to show me how much more pure your tradition is. I didn't grow up in a religious vacuum, I have ample Jews on both sides of my family. I live in an area with more Jews than any place outside NYC in the US, I think. I have never, ever, not once, not even in Israel heard anyone seriously argue that the Chanukah menorah can't be called a menorah. If you were attempting to share that your family calls it something different, you could have easily said, "Interestingly, the 9 armed candelabra is not called a menorah according to some Jewish traditions etc etc." instead of, "that is not a real menorah and we obviously come from different traditions." Again, the majority of Jews on planet Earth call it a menorah. If your family does not, that puts you in the minority, not in the position to show me how much more pure you are. For some reason you decided to split hairs with me as soon as I said "some candles," which is correct, because you light two even on the first night. Maybe you were under the impression that I was never exposed to Judaism before and thus would be open to your insulting didacticism. Judaism is an extremely diverse set of beliefs, traditions, and cultures and basically you should know better than to patronizingly criticize someone for not practicing the same way you do, and make no mistake, this has nothing to do with me because I already established I don't believe in the religion, it has to do with the fact that you evidently see most Jews on the planet as being incorrect about their own religion.
