This is exactly why a 43-year-old friend of mine, and a mom of two young boys, won’t discuss her weed smoking with other women. “I don’t want to be judged,” she says. “I think in general women are supposed to be more responsible and something about it is irresponsible.”

This is why I don't discuss it either. I don't smoke that much.... maybe once every couple of months or more and it's not while she's home. I don't even think I should feel ashamed of it. It's just weed. My priorities are straight so I think that's what matters.

probably not going to read that article if it's from salon. a lot of the biggest potheads I have ever known have been women though. When I was in school, my main hookup was a chick, and the individual in my friend group who smokes the most (everyday) is also a girl. I guess it's different being past your twenties? I'm not convinced this is any different than men in a lot of positions though. Like I don't discuss and would not ever discuss smoking weed with anyone I was not close to because of my line of work.

This article is consistent with my experience, but it examines only a sliver of the female condition.

Men are allowed to be nerds on the basis that they are men. Women have to adhere to a bunch of other rules that nobody actually knows.

most adult women in my clique (and by "adult" i mean late 20s/30s with a job) simply aren't into smoking and drinking. i don't think its intentionally a boy club thing, thats just how it is, along wth gaming or football or whatever. i what an insipid article
