because you were posting pictures of the murals that got a lot of attention which do make a valid point about brazil spending money on sporting events instead of taking care of its poor in conjunction of pictures of riot police, the presumptive reason for that is that you're correlating them in a greater statement about injustice/oppression

however...police presence is very necessary at events of this scale and are just as much an indication of safety for people against rioting and terrorism as it is "oppression"

don't start talking about tear gas before cannisters pop

i dunno what world you think we live in, where terrorists aren't lurking everywhere, but unfortunately it's this sort of world, Manny.

Black books, great series. I think that's the episode where Fran's walls are closing in.

Meanwhile, the German team is staying in a residential area in Santo André where the locals need to show their papers to the police in order to enter the area/their homes.

I was thinking ironic, but yeah. Also anyone saying the government isn't investing in education and health is just not paying attention. Please just stop.

Police violence tends to be an issue though. Heritage from the dictatorship: a militarized police force that doesn't get paid well enough to give a fuck. I'd still rather have them than not. They suffered a huge blow back when the protests were at their strongest, so I'm guessing they're under crazy international scrutiny to not be total cunts.

My mom sent me this <3

Didn't read it all but I can agree with most of you with the picture of the dog...

Are you Brazilian/Brazilian-related?

Yeah, I don't live there but I was there last June when things got way out of hand. Are you also from there? If so, I guess it makes us three. Nice finding others in this miserable corner of the internet.

The call center I worked in had about 20 HDTVs on the walls that would display the queue, but occasionally they'd put on sporting events.

However they didn't put on one single world cup match in 2010. Not one. Not even the final. I was annoyed since every gators football game was put on the TVs.

Hey, remember when the Brazilian basketball team won the gold medal in the Panamerican Games over the USA team? That was magical... Only a few years ago, 1987...

Getting back to soccer, apparently the Tea Party decided is not socialist anymore... But (American) football is!

I have reason to believe sporadic poster Rairun is one of us. I was 9 years old for that cup and remember just being really sad lol But yeah, people can get annoying. I have this Norwegian friend who's always reminding me about how Brazil never beat Norway (while they beat us twice, once in 98 as well!), and I'm like...???? That's because you haven't qualified enough times for that.

what couple of knuckleheads, especially the second guy. socialism is a word used to describe systems of government, not private business enterprises. not only that, he fails to actually address what actually makes the NFL socialist: its tax exempt status.
