DEXTER FINAL SEASON WTF EXTRAVAGANZA

Angel doesn't have much of a storyline this season. If the rumored spin-off is focused on him they're not doing a good job setting it up.

Based on what's going on in the show right now, Deb seems to be the character most likely to get a spin-off series. It almost feels like they're setting her up for that with her new job, boss, etc.

deb was going crazy but now she's okay
dr vogel is seeing psychopaths and somehow deb thinks it's okay to see her for ptsd as well

the whole dexter teaching the code

and then whats her face is coming back

i'm all for a diverse story line but it just seems like a lot to wrap up in 7 episodes...

but i guess if dexter gets caught or dies that will end all of the story lines right quick

Dexter has to die. What are the other options?

- Dexter is cured (you can't cure a psychopath.. too unbelievable)
- Dexter keeps on killing people (how long can a serial killer get away with it?)
- Dexter goes to jail (unsatisfying conclusion, nobody wants to see Dexter in jail)

I think they'll end it in one of two ways. Either he'll end up getting killed trying to help/save someone else, like Deb or the shrink or his kid. Or Deb ends up in the LeGuerta situation again. But this time she shoots Dexter.

However it ends, though, I don't think Dexter ever gets caught or publicly outed as a killer. At most someone else on the show will find out about him but keep his secret

it doesn't really seem like they're leading up to dexter dying or getting caught. but then again this is the same show where he went about his business the day after his wife died so i don't know. i just don't really get any "shit's getting real" vibes, but i dunno

anyway i was watching this clip from the first season the other day. really shows how different the show is now... scene is so raw and energetic, you never really get that anymore. not that i'm complaining per se https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0TGIRIUGqo

there have been some extremely thick and cumbersome 'hints' that dexter isn't truly a psychopath. he honestly cares about deb, his son, whatever the fuck else.
i think there's a reasonable chance they'll go for a 'haunting' ending that says dexter could have had it differently, but was driven to the life of a serial killer by overly supportive psychopath killer mentor dr. vogel

i mean it just floors me that the show keeps introducing "psychotic", disturbed serial killers, one after another, all seemingly working in the same area, going so far as starting and wrapping up another serial killer arc within 3-4 episodes this season, and then introducing another one.
all excruciatingly boring subplots aside, that's just horrific, sub par writing

dexter decides to kill said guy
endless "I CANT KEEP COVERING FOR YOUR ASS" quinn and batista scenes
etc

show was bad from day 1, it just went quickly from stupid fun to just stupid

its like a network TV show with boobs and blood. in that sense it's sort of like True Blood

it started out as something special. sort of like how Weeds started out cool but then they handed it off to other writers who did their own thing

i got into dexter late... got all the DVDs at a used book store for dirt cheap, knowing there were shitloads of seasons to go through. i figured by the fifth season the show would be way different, in terms of there being a drastically different cast, different location, ect. but it wasn't like that at all. i guess you can say they kind of played it a little too safe. and the aforementioned Weeds is an example of the opposite where the writers went all willy nilly trying to make things fresh but ended up ruining everything good about it.

worth mentioning, i read the first few seasons of dexter were actually filmed in miami. that seems to explain why the 'feel' of the show is so different. either way though i'm not bitching i still enjoy it. this season is OK as a regular season, but seemingly terrible as a final season. makes me wonder if the spinoff is going to pick up right after because they don't seem to be winding anything down

I'm basically still watching Dexter outta respect. I've been watching since the start. I feel obligated almost to see it through to the end because I've invested in these characters for years. Its not really enjoyable anymore for me. It just feels like a soap opera. It would take something monumental for me to say to myself: "Great way to end the show!" But with the writing and handling of the show. Not gonna happen. Would love to be proved wrong. Yeah Season 1 was fantastic Television viewing!

here's an ending spoiler on reddit (highlight below to see). sure there's like a 2% chance of it being real but i found it amusing none the less. and it made me think of something i never though of before maybe (possible spoiler..) lieutenant matthews was in on it all along?



Dex goes after Sax, just as he
is about to kill him, Saxon is shot in the head. Dex turns towards a
door way and takes a bullet to the chest. Some one walks in, you don't
see who it is. Dexter says "Why?" A voice that sounds both familiar and
unfamiliar says "Because you failed" There is a look of terror and
realization all at once in Dexter's eyes. We finally see who shot Saxon
and Dexter. It's lieutenant Matthews. Matthews explains everything. How
he covered for Dexter in season 2 ("Quite the coincidence you were
assigned to analyze the blood slides from the Bay Harbor Butcher case,
no?") What really happened to Harry, How he promoted Deb instead of
Bautista to protect Dexter, how he threw Laguerta off the trail,
everything. When he is done explaining, he shoots Dexter point blank in
the head. Begin final montage showing, among other things, Dexter and
Deb's funerals, Hannah Mckay captured and incarcerated before committing
suicide, various news reports of bodies washing up on shore from the
hurricane, detailing Oliver Saxon's trail of destruction, and finally, a
voice over from said news report saying the Bay Harbor Butcher may
still be at large due to the nature of the discovered bodies. As this
voice over happens, pieces of Dexter's boat wash up on shore after total
destruction from the hurricane. The camera focuses on a piece
containing "Slice", as in Slice of Life. Fade to black. Fade back in on
Harrison playing with the bloody dog. Matthews is in the kitchen talking
faintly and is said to say he would take custody of Harrison. Harrison
looks up and in the doorway, Dexter is standing there. Harrison smiles
and waves. Dexter smiles back. Instant black screen. Roll credits.

well the main idea of those spoilers is a good and interesting one. the details i dunno so much.
