testimony presented had Zimmerman in his car and Trayvon went to the car and then ran away. too bad dude just didn't stay put. He was reacting to his hero complex through that community watch thing which was put in place because of a rash of robberies, one as recent as 3 weeks prior to the killing.

i watched a documentary a while back where this happened - in Texas iirc. a man spotted a couple of black guys breaking into his neighbours place, rings the cops, tells them he has a shotgun and is going outside to confront them. the operator specifically tells him not to do so, he quotes some legal bullshit and strolls out there. the burglars see him, run (they were unarmed, go figure) and he shoots them both in the back. he went to trial and was acquitted and became some kind of local hero deal.

this is abhorrent but you can't even really compare it since Martin was not committing a crime in the first place

Even if Martin beat the shit out of him (what I doubt given their physical appearances) - why isn't Zimmerman's reaction judged as excessive or unjustifiable self-defense? I don't understand why they can't convict him for that.

It seems that in Florida if they believe he acted in self defense then it cant be an unjustified killing, that some wanted to charge him with something but once they decided he acted in self defense they couldnt do anything.

While being friendly to strangers is usually a good idea, folks really don't tend to be pleasant when you're trying to figure out if they're supposed to be where they are in that moment. I work at a motel, a giant one, directly next to slum lord type apartments and a string of skeezeball motels. Every day I have to try and hussle all kinds of different people off property. Mostly hookers, junkies and thiefs. But no matter who I speak to, whether from the listed group or no, the response is never "oh hey! Thanks, ok yeah I'm on my way somewhere. See ya!" It's always a challenge and a "why the fuck are you talking to me? Eat shit, asshole".

But I'm also unarmed, not a dick and get paid to do it. So, not really commenting on the case but people don't usually respond well if you seem like you wanna dive into their business, however cursory

didn't read the thread, but can anybody explain to me why they think they know more than a court of law? USA isn't belarus or whatever, america has a working judicial system. usually not everyone is happy with a court's decision, but a) there's always appealing to a higher institution and b) that's the price we pay for not living in countries with show trials.

People are going on feelings and conjecture, not legal facts and any understanding whatsoever of the judicial system.

The DOJ has an email address for the public to send tips how to prosecute Zimmerman. I mean, seriously

This case wasn't decided by a panel of judges with decades of legal background. It was decided by six Floridians. Those jurors surely know more than anyone in the country about laws and such.

Those jurors know more about this case than anyone bitching about their unanimous verdict.

you're correct about the laws. Given the instructions they got, I don't see how they could have followed the letter of the law AND convicted Zimmerman.

Florida now puts the presumption of guilt on the victim in self defense situations like this.

They voted unanimously for acquittal, they originally had one juror that wanted myrder and two wanted manslaughter. When they got details about manslaughter, they realized it didn't fit this case so they acquitted Zimnerman.

I assume most people complaining (on both sides, mind you) didn't watch every second of the trial. I had to for work purposes and it was painful. The state was putrid, and after the case they look downright petty. The DOJ stuff is crazy.
