Just saw Star Trek Into Darkness. Damn fun. Didn't break a whole lot of new ground, but it did have a surprise or two. Benedict Cumberbatch was great.

Yep. I'd never heard of it before reading the script. The director is only 26. Blew my mind.

watched this last night. good movie, but the ending was a copout. it seemed obvious that there was originally a good story but somebody got a hold of the script and edited it to be a love-story.

my prior knowledge of the movie doesn't extend beyond "i saw the trailer for it once" - you don't feel the ending was rushed?

re: safety not garaunteed i never got the impression the love story element was shoehorned in or anything

btw i didn't think the movie was fantastic or anything i was just pleasantly surprised. probably because i watched it right after that steve carell end of the world movie (another sci-fi romcom) and it was pretty meh

my memory of watching the trailer that one time is obviously hazy - i definitely was not expecting a straight-up time-traveling cyber-thriller but i was surprised at the napoleon dynamite-esque portrayal of the main guy.

i really enjoyed it.

yeah it was pretty awesome. although instead of "into darkness" they should call it "explosions and punching"

i've only seen Visitor Q and Ichi the Killer, and they were both deliriously fucked up and awesome...nothing really like 13 assassins but still recommended if you want something weird and different.

Gozu is supposed to be very Lynchian, looking forward to seeing that one

We watched Argo (really enjoyed it), Sinister (good, like it too) and DJango (fell asleep about 30 min in and didn't finish it) lastnight :/ Would like I rewatch DJango but got it from redbox so had to take it back before I finished it.

don't bother. What a crapfest.

Caught up on the Evangelion theatrical releases because one of my coworkers mentioned the third one was out - all three really good, very excited for the fourth one. They manage to really twist the storyline up without losing any of the things that make Evangelion great. It almost made me not want to just clock Shini for being a whiny little bitch.

Watched Upstream Colour last night and really dug that too, I loved Primer so my expectations were pretty high but it definitely delivered. Carruth has a bright future ahead of him and if this doesn't get the same kind of recognition as Primer did i'll be very dissapointed.

About to start watching Brick. I'll get back to y'all.

I don't think you'll find that sobriety will make a great deal of difference.

Brick: Mildly entertaining but profoundly silly movie that if I had to guess was written by a sixteen year old after someone stole his girlfriend.

i'm not the best one to judge cause i lose track of storylines quite quickly tbh, but i really didn't understand anything of this. i always frustrate myself hugely with watching movies like this to the end though and i feel like the dumbest person on earth

i didn't think it was crap but I found it weird it got unanimous praise. alot of the more interesting characters didn't come until the last quarter of the movie then they got killed off pretty quickly. movie just had a 'that was it?' feel for me

yeah, me too. I really like Tarantino, also Inglorious Basterds, but this maybe was his worst film.

Still not bad though.
