Question how the fuck are you filing these reissues? digitally.

hey?

typically i have do the following:

artist \ album [year] \ disc no if necessary - disc title if necessary \ track no - song title.filename

i also get my listening software of choice to list files by release year under each artist.

take the reissue of mcis. do i have a mcis [2012] and mcis [1995] folder? do i have both those copies in my library? do i delete the old one? do i keep the original [1995] one and have a separate folder for the additional discs of the new [2012] one?

what are you ppl doing?

i usually roll a dice, and then put the amount of dots in between curly brackets, as part of the directory name.

so for mcis reissue, my subdirectories are:
- disc 1 {...}
- disc 2 {.....}
- disc 3 {....}
- disc 4 {.....}
- disc 5 {.}

in my opinion, this is the only correct way of filing albums digitally.

I use a Year-Month-Day system as a header, followed by the album title and then I file them in assigned folders. So, my reissue is titled “[2012-12-04] Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (Reissue) [BS]” If I cannot pin point the exact date I will use “[19xx-” or some variant like “[1991-10-xx]” and the tag at the end is to designate the type of release, in this case the “[BS]” stands for “Box Set”.

So, my file system would end up looking something like this: The “The Smashing Pumpkins” folder then the “Albums” folder then “[2012-12-04] Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (Reissue) [BS]” then the subsequent folders for each disc like “[Disc 1] Dawn to Dusk” and “[Disc 3] Morning Tea” with the tracks all properly labeled and tagged.

Jesus. Slow down there, Captain Specific.

But srsly. My folders are similar to that. Which works well.

Now. In iTunes or whatever (I use Zune. There I said it. Fuck you. Zune is awesome) do you have both versions of MCIS? Or do you just have one? Which one? I'm inclined to list only the remastered one, but then the chronological order is all weird. I feel like the first two discs should be [1995] and the rest should be [2012]. But then yhwyte separated.

I've had some wine and the importance of this is becoming EVER MORE CLEAR TO ME. FUCK GUYS. THIS NEEDS A SOLUTION!!
