I think it's a goddamn service, because despite his sadness beef is seriously an awesome dude, and I think Chris Onstad is bullshitting when he says Teodor is semi-autobiograpical. I think the truth is that ideally he feels like he should be Teodor but he's often like Beef, I just can't imagine anyone just writing a depressed character with the care and grace as he does with Beef if he's not someone who understands it acutely.

But we can agree that Beef is...pretty much the perfect portrayal of a depressed person. At least more perfect than anything I can immediately recall.

Yes, it's generally what endeared me to it. I think that it's a portrayal that finds humor in the inexplicable sense of doom, I do as well, but also shows that the guy is a hell of a friend and a seriously awesome dude. I think that's why it's so strong, it's not a one note joke about how sad he is, it's more like he's sad yeah but damn he's so great.

It can be dark as hell sometimes. I've been rereading a bit this week and that last story arc with the high school road trip and Teodore sucks that guys dick in the back of the van... I find it hard to believe something can be that hilarious and that upsetting simultaneously
