it's in defense of your anonymity, holy shit

i bet you like it every once in a while

if this guy went and diddled kids or possessed actual CP (he might) then yeah, post his fucking name everywhere

but until you can corroborate that, withholding is the fair thing to do

lol, no

do i post things on and moderate a board that encourages people to surreptitiously take pictures of underage (or any) girls so that perverts can jack off to them? no, i don't. and i never would. stop defending this pervert's anonymity. he deserves to lose it as much as anyone.

I don't get the controversy here

Guy was outed doing a legal but morally reprehensible activity and faces the consequences

It's not like he's being legally prosecuted right?

Do people honestly believe they're completely anonymous online anymore?

Maybe someone can help me out

Attacking someone who abused him is definitely not a refusal to condemn him. Two wrong don't make a right, Eulogy. This guy's a shithead but does he deserve to be punished this way?

well, he shouldn't have assumed that he was anonymous, no, especially considering how much personal information he had released about himself

what gawker did was p. shitty imo, since it purports to be a news source and has a far wider audience than reddit

he isn't being prosecuted because as far as i know, there aren't any laws that were explicitly broken, but he has faced the consequences of being in and around those communities

tl;dr he should have known better

I mean I completely support the guys legal right to post that shit and I also completely support the right to legally out him for it. Freedom of speech means facing the consequences for it

Sad that this is what the online community spends its energy arguing about

uh, yeah, he does. if you're going to spend your time trying to cultivate an environment where underage girls have their pictures posted without their knowledge or consent for perverts to jack off to them, you deserve to lose your job.

but now he's taking donations on paypal so gross idiots like redbull and exactlythesame can make sure he's comfortable for life. so there still is no justice in this world.

hell, it wasn't illegal for gawker to do that, not in the least

the law doesn't guarantee anonymity but it is the holy grail of most internet users

sadly, it is gone the way of the dodo on the surface web. you have to use Tor for true anonymity anymore. but, as the saying goes, if you aren't breaking any laws, what do you have to hide (right? right?)

Sure they have that right, but there are hurtful ways of exercising your rights that are unproductive. These are both prime examples. It makes Gawker look like just as gross as their target.

um, if you're surreptitiously taking pictures of underage girls for perverts to jack off to, you do have something to hide, regardless of whether it's legal.

jesus christ you're fucking disgusting.

what i said went completely over your head

i quoted that saying with my tongue firmly in cheek

it's obvious you don't hold anonymity with any real regard, and that's your right. some of us do, even if it means withholding judgment until the law is enforced, no matter how much it turns our stomach. and you know what? we have that right just like you do. so stop being so fucking high and mighty about this shit and have some perspective.

If you suspect someone broke the law, turn him or her in to the proper authorities. When you try to take justice into your own hands things get bad like this.

Of course nobody wants to give him an environment that supports victimizing children or women or whomever. Gawker did something within their rights that was shitty, just like this idiot. But, again, two wrongs don't make a right.

yeah and the people that find what someone does utterly reprehensible have the right to out you for being a disgusting fucking pervert. why is his right to "anonymity" more important than the underage girls' right not to have their pictures plastered all over reddit?

you goddamn creep.

what is shitty about what gawker did? they exposed a fucking pervert and perhaps prevented some awful things (although redditors with your mindset will find a way to bypass this shit). he deserved to get exposed, and he was. what was bad about exposing him???

Hmmm, I don't know if you can say the ends justify the means here, almost entirely because of the slippery slope argument. If I don't like what someone does legally, how empowered am I to hurt them for it, beyond turning them over to the authorities?
