Default Paul Krugman

I enjoy his column and his regular use of twitter. unlike establishment liberals he seems to vocalize an honest progressive opinion on more than just economics.

Today's column..."Distain for Workers"

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/21/op...kers.html?_r=0

Quote:
Where does this disdain for workers come from? Some of it, obviously, reflects the influence of money in politics: big-money donors, like the ones Mr. Romney was speaking to when he went off on half the nation, don’t live paycheck to paycheck. But it also reflects the extent to which the G.O.P. has been taken over by an Ayn Rand-type vision of society, in which a handful of heroic businessmen are responsible for all economic good, while the rest of us are just along for the ride.

In the eyes of those who share this vision, the wealthy deserve special treatment, and not just in the form of low taxes. They must also receive respect, indeed deference, at all times. That’s why even the slightest hint from the president that the rich might not be all that — that, say, some bankers may have behaved badly, or that even “job creators” depend on government-built infrastructure — elicits frantic cries that Mr. Obama is a socialist.

Now, such sentiments aren’t new; “Atlas Shrugged” was, after all, published in 1957. In the past, however, even Republican politicians who privately shared the elite’s contempt for the masses knew enough to keep it to themselves and managed to fake some appreciation for ordinary workers. At this point, however, the party’s contempt for the working class is apparently too complete, too pervasive to hide.

The point is that what people are now calling the Boca Moment wasn’t some trivial gaffe. It was a window into the true attitudes of what has become a party of the wealthy, by the wealthy, and for the wealthy, a party that considers the rest of us unworthy of even a pretense of respect.

I keep thinking to myself that despite the diafication of Reagan, he would never have bought into the Randist bullshit that's completely taken over the leadership of the GOP. That kind of nonsense only goes so far, and it's starting to serioulsy damage their party. Yeah, it got the GOP control of the House and it won them the white house a few times in the past 30 years. But if it's not tempered with respect for the working class it's like handing the Democratic party a script for taking over all three branches of government.

The last time the republican party had its head this far up it's ass was the 1920s...

can everyone just calm the hell down? Don’t be part of the problem, be part of the solution. Instead of sitting around talking about some big mistake Romney has supposedly made, start making calls for him. Knock doors. Canvass. Donate.

He’s the most qualified candidate our nation has seen in a long time. But, he has no one on his side for more than five seconds. Roll your sleeves up, stop whining, dig in, and start helping.

Sorry. Should have posted that yesterday. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

The only shot they have is to at least match our enthusiasm. Knowing Obama’s record, the only way they can do that is by stirring up anger among their base and by demoralizing our side. The outrageous polls are designed to demoralize us. And, judging from some comments here and elsewhere, those polls are working, at least to an extent.

Especially regarding polls, as I’ve been saying for MONTHS, as some of these articles are starting to point out, the POLLSTERS are trying to MANIPULATE readers and DEPRESS turnout. It was a COORDINATED attack this past week between the WH, MSM, and pollsters to call this race OVER…6 WEEKS BEFORE VOTING!!! We need surrogates and analysis SLAMMING THIS. I’d suggest FNC but even THEIR OWN POLL OVERESTIMATES DEMS!!! So, yeah, we need to hit back.

The problem is the MSM state polls don’t match many of the national polls. If Obama was really all this good, and winning by the landslide the media and MSM pollsters, it would be evident in Rasmussen polling.

Looking at O’s lead in all of the polls, America does not want to hear the truth. The majority of voters want to hear lies, sweet little lies, nasty big lies.
Heard about dem voters being asked if it bothered them when their politicians lied to them and it did not bother them, actually they expected to be lied to.
And here we have a good man,Romney, telling the hard truth and he gets crucified by almost everyone including some repubs.

Look at which story has real legs. The embassy attack is still in the news and growing, the 47% is gone. On top of that Mr. Obama has made another gaffe with his ” inside of Washington” statement.Obama is the guy in trouble with his foot in his mouth, not Mitt!

i don't think krugman at all understands Atlas Shrugged. It is not anti-worker, it is pro-productivity.

also he's maybe not aware of obama's big-money corporate donors either

well it's only rewarding one kind of productivity that the bourgoise rand deems to be worthy, so it is fairly anti worker
