I hope Shirley Maclaine is good in this. I like her in a few films, but I never thought she belonged at Downton.

Just watched her best exotic marigold hotel and loved it. I think she needed a bigger role though.

It's best one that's been out in a long time. I was lucky enough to discover the first two seasons at once so I could watch them one after the other without having to wait.

Gosford park is excellent. When I first started watching downton I thought how much like gosford park it was and had to look it up, he's a terrific writer. It wouldn't be the same show without Maggie smith though.

I have to say... this season is going to be better than the last one.

I am confused about one thing.... the disfigured man who came to stay at Downton, during the war.... claimed to be connected to the Grantham family, then ended up leaving. Was he really related to them, or was he just trying to get the estate?

I wasn't sure if I would like Matthew at first either. He seemed a little dry, then the story picked up a lot, especially with the episode where the flu went around. I like Lady Mary, she's not too proper and has some mystery to her

Vix, I think I'll be watching that this week if I have time. I also like Maggie in Room with a view.

Starla, it's left ambiguous whether he was actually their relative, but I think most people assume he's a troubled grifter

yeah, that's the truth that would make poor lady edith seem the most pathetic so that was probably the case

poor edith. i hope she can find someone better than sir antony. what a weirdo. nice though, i guess. and his coming to branson's rescue obviously moved him up a few pegs in my book

How is he a weirdo? He's a totally decent old dude. He's refused her because he knows he's too old for her.

I wonder if they will bring him back later.

I thought the whole story with her messing around with the farmer was a little off. I hope she doesn't get stuck w/ him either.

oh i forgot to mention since you haven't seen his films yet it's best to get a feel for the conversation(s) rather than expect to catch every word; it's how he rolls.
