i think treating them like miniature adults is bad parenting but i'm not a parent so i'm not saying it definitely is, just going off my experience. i mean even teachers treating you that way fucks you up. at the time i wanted to be treated that way but in hindsight there was just so much i didn't know and hid so i could be perceived as more mature and less affected by "immature things" and it also resulted in a lot of guilt because i felt like i had to act perfectly

I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong, but it wasn't the only option to suggest vegetarianism to him. There's all kinds of learning opportunity there about life and death and renewal. And if a kid can't understand all of that at three years old who's to say he really understand why he's eating or not eating something at all.

he knows he doesn't like the killing of animals for food so his mother gave him options to go along with those beliefs and let him know he doesn't have to eat meat if he doesn't want to!

sitting him down to talk about life and death and renewal is a bit of a stretch in this situation. i know you like to talk about those things a lot, but it isn't always necessary.

no one likes the killing of animals though, you know what i mean? but we each weigh the pros and cons and the ethical ramifications and decide. the kid is not capable of that at three. like i said i don't think its really a bad thing to let your kid not eat meat for the reasons already laid out, but to think he *really* is intellectually capable of understanding his actions is totally a stretch, or that there was no other lesson to be learned by the sadness of animal death than just not eating meat.

but yeah i mean, let him not eat meat for however long that lasts. i dont know much about little kids so im not saying its wrong to comfort a kid when he's crying by doing something like that

no one said he was.

at least he isn't crying over dead animals anymore and he is trying foods most kids his age wouldn't touch.
