I guess I mean to say there are like 10 other models that do more or less the same thing, and every few months there are more models (not just Apple) that are released with minor tweaks that still do more or less the same thing. Maybe a few years ago the hooplah over it was understandable, now it's just another "phone".

Also, there is no big deal over a new camera, gps, browser like there is over an iPhone. And a new video game system is completely different, seeing as they don't release a new "version" every six months.

Sorry, I misunderstood what you meant by this. I want one, I have my own version of a gadget that does all of this. But the release of this thing is an event and that I don't understand. It's not groundbreaking or anything, and it being popular isn't a good enough reason for it to get so much goddamn attention.

doesn't attention generally track popularity?

honestly i read almost as much about the kindle announcements last week. i'm sure that other people didn't but i don't think the coverage has been that INSANE. media outlets and tech blogs are meeting a clear demand. more people want to know about this than want to know about other gadgets. it's not as if the nightly news has been leading with it.

i guess my question is, why does it bother you that it gets attention like it does?
